CHONG

Our ancestor, Fook Yee Chong, was born on 28 Aug 1882 and arrived on the island of Kauai in 1901 from Kwangtung, which is the area that is now most commonly known as Guangdong, China. On his Social Security application, he stated that his hometown was Pukak. Now known as Buji, it is situated near the western limits of Shenzhen City, in the Longgang District. Also indicated on Fook Yee Chong's Social Security application was his father's name, Ah Chek Cheong. Unsure of his mother's full name, he simply wrote LIU.

Fook Yee was legally married to Mary Ahnee in 1921. She was previously married to Isaac Kaiu. They had a total of 8 children, all born in Kealia, Kawaihau District, Kauai County, Hawaii with the exception of Soon Yen Chong who was born during a family trip to China and left there in the care of Fook Yee's mother. A toddler, Edward Yau Kwong Chong, made the journey too but died there.

AHNEE

Fun Kum Liu Ahnee was also known as Fan Kam. He was born around 1856 and arrived in Hawaii around 1880. He married Mele Malamalama Pa about 1891, and together, they became the parents of four children, one of whom was Mary Ahnee. Mele was married previously to Joseph Ilalaole. We know very little else about Fun Kum Liu Ahnee.
