JohnElizabeth.jpg (22400 bytes) The naturalization papers of John Tippett (June 30, 1888) say that he arrived in the US through the port of New York on the 21st of June, 1859. John married ELIZABETH JANE BRYANT, probably in Cornwall.   She was born October, 1839/40 and died February 23, 1909 in Hyde Park, Pennsylvania, while visiting her daughter, Minnie Tippett Roberts.  John died February 01, 1898 in Woodward Township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania of "miner's asthma".

1870 US Federal Census, Hemlock Township, Columbia County, PA: John is a miner, living with Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Willie, Elizabeth (? Anna), and baby Emma.

1880 US Federal Census, Hemlock Township, Columbia County,  PA (June 21, 1880): John Tippett, age 42, born in England, occupation Iron Ore Miner. Jane Tippett, wife, age 40, born in England. 1900 US Federal Census, West Houtzdale, Clearfield County, PA: - Elizabeth is widowed, living with son William. She states she gave birth to seven children, five of which were still living. Writing is difficult to decipher but looks like she came to US in 1859.

Death notice from the "Leechburg Advance":

   Mrs. John Tippett, aged 69 years and 4 months, died at the home of her son-in-law John Roberts, at Hyde Park on Tuesday, February 23, 1909.  Funeral services were conducted at the home on Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock.

 Immediately next door are the Tippetts - the grandparents of Ralph and Lottie.  The Tippett's daughter (Ralph and Lottie's mother), Mary Jane Tippett Rounsley, had recently died of "inflamation".

In the 1900 Census, Washington Township, Smith County, Kansas:  Here Nathan says he came to the US in 1872 and is a naturalized citizen.  He is married to Agnes and six children are living with them; Maud, William, May, Fred and Harry - also 22-year-old Ralph, Nathan's son to Mary Jane Tippett. 

In the 1910 Census, Washington, Smith County, Kansas:  Nathan and wife Agnes are living with their 5 children, all born in Kansas.  Nathan is a farmer; he came to the US in 1871.  Agnes had 9 children, six were living.

In the 1920 Census, Washington, Smith County, Kansas:  Nathan says he came to the US in 1872 and was naturalized in 1889.  He is a farmer.  Wife Agnes and children Fred, Harry and Alma are also living in the house.

    1900 PA Census, William lists his occupation as coal miner. Living in his home in West Houtzdale are his wife Sabina, sons Albert, Wesley and James and mother Elizabeth. Sabina states she came to the US in 1874.

    1920 PA Census, William is still a miner. Living in his home in West Houtzdale are his wife Sabina, son Wesley, 1-year-old granddaughter Marion and 16-year-old servant Ruth Goss.

    1930 PA Census:  William and Sabina are living alone on Pleasant Hill Road.  William owns his home and is working as a coal miner.

1900 US Federal Census, William, Annie, Janet and John are living in Hastings Borough, Cambria County, PA. Mary E. Lee and Lilly B. Lee, 14 and 9-year-old boarders, are living with them. William's occupation is mine foreman. They have had 4 children, 2 of which were living.

1910 US Federal Census, Armstrong County, ED 2, visit 171; the Ednie family is living on Armstrong Ave., Apollo, PA. They have had 5 children, 3 of which were living. William is working as a foreman in a coal mine; son John is a laborer in a rolling mill. William and Annie have been married for 25 years.

1930 US Federal Census, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia:  Anna Ednie is widowed and is living with her daughter, Janet, and son-in-law, Ward Cowen.

EMMA3 TIPPETT (JOHN JAMES2, JAMES1) was born 1870 in Pennsylvania and died October 30, 1953.  She married ALBERT ABRAM 1888, son of William Abram and Kate Hoskin.  He was born September 17, 1866 in Liskeard, Cornwall, England and died July 19, 1951. 

Albert Abram came to the United States through the port of New York on November 8, 1880 aboard the ship "Arizona".  He was 11 years old and traveled with his father, William.

1910 US Federal Census, North Huntingdon Twp., Westmoreland County, PA:  Albert's occupation is laborer, coal mine.  Residents of the household include Emma, son Bertram (occupation laborer, electric plant) and daughters Mary H. and Alberta.

1920 US Federal Census, Westmoreland City District, Westmoreland County, PA: only 14 year old Alberta is living with them. Albert is employed by a coal company - the name is illegible. (----Bros.)

1930 US Federal Census, Westmoreland City. North Huntingdon Twp., Westmoreland County, PA:  Albert, Emma and Alberta are living on Walnut St.  Albert is a janitor in a public school; Alberta is a teacher in a public school.  Albert and Emma own their own home, valued at $3500.

She was born May 27, 1874 in Arnot, Tioga County, PA, and died July 18, 1955 in Gilpin Township, Leechburg, PA.

1900 US Federal Census:  The family is living in Gilpin Twp., Leechburg, PA.  Children John, Agnes and Elizabeth are in the household, as is mother-in-law Grace Archibald, widowed, and Bella Archibald, widowed cousin, born August 1881.

1910 US Federal Census: The family is living on Siberian Avenue in Leechburg, Armstrong County, PA. John is employed as a sheet heater at an Iron Mill.

1920 US Federal Census: John and family are living on Siberian Avenue in Leechburg. John owns his home. He and son William are employed at the mill. Agnes is employed as a telephone operator. Their youngest child, Vivian is now 4 years old.

1930 US Federal Census:  John and family are living at 235 Lincoln Avenue, Leechburg, PA.  Ralph and Vivian live at home.  Also in the household are 23--year-old Leroy Thompson and wife Dorothy, 21, and their one-month-old baby, Dolores.  John is a sheet heater at the steel mill; Ralph is an attendant at a pool room and Leroy is a laborer at a steel mill.

The marriage of Myron Thompson of Vandergrift and Miss Agnes W. Tippett of this place, was solemnized at the parsonage of the Broad Street Presbyterian Church, Columbus, Ohio, last Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. Samuel S. Palmer, D.D., performing the ceremony.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Tippett of Siberian avenue, and is well known in the community, having resided there all her life. For the past six years she has been employed in the office of the Kittanning Telephone Co., where she holds the position of Chief Operator.

The groom, who saw service in France and Germany during the war, was formerly a clerk in the post office of the A.S. and T.P. Co., at that place.  The happy couple will make their home here.

Agnes and Myron Thompson are buried in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo, Armstrong County, PA.  The inscription on Myron's tombstone reads:  Pvt. Co A, Postal Express Service, WWI.

Death notice from the "Leechburg Advance:  Saturday, November 10, of pneumonia, Elizabeth Jane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Tippett of Georgetown.  Services were held at the residence Tuesday morning at 10:00, conducted by Rev. J. S. Helm.

 Death notice from the "Leechburg Advance":  James, the 10-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Tippett, of Siberian Avenue, died on Tuesday.  The child was one of a pair of twins and brings grief to the family and neighborhood.  Funeral services were observed on Thursday, Rev. J. S. Helm, officiating.

ROBERTS, the son of Thomas and Sarah Roberts, on July 4, 1895. He was born April 1874 in Ohio, and died June 1, 1954 in Orchard Hills, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.

1900 US Federal Census: The Roberts family is living in Leechburg, Armstrong County, PA. He is employed as a catcher in the rolling mill. They have had 2 children, both of which were living.

1910 US Federal Census, Apollo Borough, Armstrong County, PA, ED 2, Visit 257: The Roberts family is living on Warren Avenue. They have had six children, all of which are living. John is employed as helper in a rolling mill. His parents were born in Wales; he was born in Ohio.

John Ednie's wife and children are derived from the 1930 Census, Wheeling, West Virginia.  This family is assumed to belong to John Ednie, son of William and Anna Tippett Ednie because of the presence of William Ednie, Janet Ednie Cowan, and Anna Ednie in the same town, and Jack Ednie's parents' birthplaces agree (Scotland and Pennsylvania).

Dorothy I. Thompson, 80, 414 Third Street, Leechburg, Died Jan. 9, 1989, at 8:50 a.m. in Citizens General Hospital, New Kensington.  She was born Sept. 3, 1908 in Leechburg, the daughter of the late John and Grace Archibald Tippett.  She lived at her Third Street residence the past eight years. She previously lived in Monaca. She was a member of Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church, Leechburg. Survivors include: two sons, John F. Thompson, Gilpin Township, and James E. Thompson, Hagerstown, MD; three daughters, Mrs. Gilbert (Dolores) Freilino, Leechburg, Roberta Shea, Monroeville, and Pat Kennedy, Gilpin Township; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mabel Hobaugh, Harrisville, Ohio, and Leroy (sic)(Vivian) Grimm, Coraopolis. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Ralph and William Tippett; a sister, Agnes Thompson; and two grandsons, Bruce Thompson in 1984, and Joseph Kennedy in 1961. Friends will be welcomed by her family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday night at Clawson's, Second at Main, Leechburg, where a funeral service will be held at noon, officiated by her pastor, The Rev. Edward Sheenan(sic). Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Gilpin Township.
