John was born and raised in Ballaghadereen County Mayo. He is thought to have emigrated to the United States sometime in the early 1840s. Nothing is known about his wife Bridget except that she was born in Ireland. They were married in 1845. It is not certain where they were married but the were living in Rhode Island by 1846 when their first child was born. By 1853 the family was living in Southport Wisconsin. and by 1854 they were located in Chicago Illinois. Sometime in 1855 the family moved to Minnesota and settled on a farm in Lakeville Twp in Dakota County. They were one of the first families in the area and were a founding family of St. John's church in Burnsville MN.

John died in 1885 and was buried in Highland Cemetery in Lakeville. His wife continued to run the farm after his death. She is also buried in Highland Cemetery.

Michael born in Lakeville Twp. shortly after his parents arrival to the area. He was raised on the family farm and remained in the area until his marriage in 1879. His wife was born Aug. 30, 1858 and was raised on a farm in Lakeville Twp. She attended High school in St. Paul, worked as a teacher in Scott and Dakota Counties prior to her marriage Some time after their marriage, Mike and Mary moved to western Minnesota near the town of Morris, homesteading a farm in Synnes Twp in Stevens County. A number of other relatives had moved to morris about the same time. Michael may have worked for the railroad at the time.

Later in life Michael and his wife moved into the town of Morris MN where they remained until their respective deaths. Mary died in March 1933 at the home of her daughter Mrs Calking in St. Paul MN. Both Michael and Mary are buried at Calvary Cemetery in Morris MN.
