A sad fatality occurred near Huntly. The victim was a single man named Frank Bascon who was working in a cutting near the Pukemiro Mine, about 6 miles from Huntly. The deceased and his brother were at work in the cutting which they appear to have undermined. At 5pm, without any warning the mass at the top of the cutting fell and buried Bascon. He was immediatly extricated by his brother and a mate named Herman Mollring, but it was found that life was extinct. The body has been bought to the Mortuary at Huntly where a inquest will be held. The relatives of the deceased who live at Epsom have been communicated with. It seems that Bascon and his brother arrived at Huntly on Saturday and only started work yesterday. No other details.

A lad named F W Batholomew, aged 16 years was taking a tub of stone along the tramway to the dump when the box jammed on the rail and overturned, crushing him between the box and the handrail. Huntly: A Miner named James Walker Brown, a native of Lanackshire, Scotland, died with tragic suddenness at his home in Huntly, about noon today. He had previously complained of a severe headache and had gone outside to tell his wife that he had taken the remedy advice, when, without warning, he collapsed. Dr C R Macdiarmid though quickly on the scene, could only pronounce life extinct. The deceased who was only 45 years of age, leaves a wife, one son and six daughters, having been out of work, since the strike, Mr Brown, who in the interim had made two trips to Australia, has been somewhat depressed but showed no signs of bad health.
