The deceased came to NZ in the old ship "Winchester" from Scotland 42 yrs ago, and for the past 41 years had been employed at the Greymouth Dispatch Foundry Company, he was 65 years of age and a native of Hamilton, Scotland, and leaves a wife, 8 daughters and 2 sons.

The funeral of the late Mr Rechab Harding took place on Friday at Mount Vernon Station, near Waipawa, in the presence of a large gathering of the relatives and friends of the deceased gentleman. Nearly every runholder from a radius of twenty miles was represented, and the coffin was carried by six shepherds belonging to the estate. The deceased was interred in a private buriel place belonging to the family, just outside the gardens, and the service was performed by the Ven Archdeacon S Williams. Among those present were, the Revs Johnston, A Williams, C L Turk and Grant, the Chairman, clerk, and all members of the Waipawa County Council, the Chairman and Clerk of the Pantangata County Council, all the local magistrates, and several gentlemen from Napier.

The death of a old settler in the Whangaparaoa district, Mrs Mary Jane Harvey, occurred recently, at her residence, Arkles Bay. Mrs Harvey, who had reached the age of 66 years, arrived in New Zealand 38 years ago in the sailing ship Rangitiki, and settled at Whangapararoa, where she resided until her death, being greatly esteemed in the district. She is survived by her husband, four sons, three of whom served in the great war, four daughters and 25 grandchildren. The interment took place at Silverdale.
