The name on the Patent was "Joel Womack" except for the 5-1-1850 case when the middle initial "W." appeared.

She was born July 4, 1840 in Georgia, and died December 24, 1916 in Faulkner Co., AR.

William Harrison Womack, whose entire name was probably William Henry Harrison Womack, was born in Georgia, exact place still unknown. When he was just a lad, perhaps no more than 2 or 3 years, his father moved to Tallapoosa County, Alabama and settled in the area near the present day village of New Site. There he grew to manhood, went to war, began his family, and suffered the hard times that prevailed throughout the South following the Civil War. His Civil War record, while extant, is sparse other than that he was a cavalryman, a blacksmith, that he owned a horse, and served in Company I, 3rd Georgia Cavalry. The record of his marriage to Harriet Euline Smith was recorded in 1860 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. The next official record is the 1870 Census for Tallapoosa County, Alabama in which he is listed as a farm laborer. He next appears on the 1880 Census for Independence County, Arkansas. He and Harriett appear on the 1900 Census. He applied for a pension for his Civil War service in Arkansas and one was granted shortly before his death.

The spelling of his name makes research more difficult. Following are some variations:

Notes for Harriet Euline Smith:

Harriett was born in Georgia in 1840, the exact site remains unknown. While still a small child, she moved with her parents and older crother and sister to Tallapoosa County, Alabama. The Smith settled near the present community of New Site. Not far from the Smiths lived the Womacks and in 1860 when Harriett was 20, she married William Harrison Womack, Sr. They endured the Civil War, a brutal Reconstruction, a move to the Ozark foothills in 1878, and further econmic hardship as their age began to show. They produced 10 children, eight of whom survived to adulthood. Harriet died at the home of her daughter, Martha A. Newman. She was buried at Republican Cemetery in Conway Co.,AR. No marker at the grave. The Arkansas Death Index reports her death date as 2/25/1915.

William H. Womack obtained a marriage license in Tallapoosa County, AL for himself and Harriett E. Smith. The vows were solemnized 11-13-1860 by A. G. Brooks, JP. Bondsman was L. P. Smith, brother of the bride. Marriage was recorded in Tallapoosa County, AL Record Book V, page 31. In 1870, William and Harriett were living in or near New Site, AL. New Site was a few miles north of Dadeville, the County Seat.

The 1900 Census, taken 6/18/1900, for Greenbrier Twnshp, Independence Co.,AR shows W. H. and Harriett E. living alone and next door to Frank and Oma. He gave his birthplace as AL and that of his parents as GA. Harriett gave her birthplace as GA and that of her father with her mother's as NC. They reported having 10 children with 8 living.

The BLM issued a land Patent to Samuel B. Green on November 16, 1894. The two parcels made up 163.7 acres and was located in Section 11, Township 12-N, Range 8-W. The land was one and one-half miles south of the Patent issued to William Harrison Womack, Sr., one-half mile east of the Patent issued to Joel G. Womack, and adjoining on the southeast corner the Patent issued to Franklin Flowd Womack.

Near the marker for Buck and Dora are two others which read: Floyd Green and Infant Twins.

I believe the correct date of birth is 1879. Dora and Buck Green were married the last of December 1878 and I think they came to Arkansas with the William Womack's. Franklin was born in Arkansas according to the family Bible. Sometimes he listed his name as Frank and other times as Floyd. Not sure which was first and which the middle name.

Jan. 25, 1912, Frank F. Womack acquired through Hd. Act 1862, 160 acres described: Sect 10, 12N, R8W, S2SE4NW4SE4 NE4SW4. rcpt #08281.

Frank Womack was killed in a truck accident in 1935. His death left Oma with four children at home and little or no means to support them. Clete Andrew and Dell cut stave bolts during the winter of 1935 to help feed the family.
