children spelled it GEDDES.
Joseph GEDDES; b.1805 probably in Columbiana Co, OH; m. Catherine MOORE, daughter of William MOORE, circa 1831? at (West) Virginia; d. 1866. Catherine MOORE was b. in 1812/13 in MD and d. in 1888 at Mongo, Lagrange Co, Indiana. This family moved from Columbiana Co to Tuscarawas Co and later to Williams Co, OH. Joseph is buried in neighboring DeKalb Co, IN.
They had 12 children:
1. William GEDDES, b. 1831 at (prob) Columbiana Co, OH; d. 1895 in Lagrange Co, IN, m. Delilah FAIR, in Tuscarawas Co, OH in 1856.
2. Elizabeth GEDDES; b. between 1832 and 1835, d. young.
3. John Franklin GEDDES, b. 1835 at (prob) Columbiana Co, Ohio; d. 1906 in Allen Co, IN, m. Mary M. ADKISON in 1861 in Clay Co, IL. Lived primarily in Iroquois Co, IL.
4. James M. GEDDES, b. 1837 at Columbiana Co, Ohio; m. Emma Zerrilda YOUNG in 1862. Lived in Iroquois Co and Vermillion Co, IL, d. in 1905 in Jasper Co, IL.
5. Mary Ann GEDDES, b. 5 March 1839 at Tuscarawas Co, OH; d. 1911 in Calhoun Co, MI; m. Rev George ROBINETT. Lived primarily in DeKalb Co, IN
6. Robert Jackson GEDDES, b. 1841 in Ohio; d. 1904 in Iroquois Co, IL; m. Harriet ROBINETT.
7. Nancy Jane GEDDES; b. 1843 at Tuscarawas Co, Ohio; married Isaiah CLARK in 1861 at De Kalb Co, IN; d. 1903 in De Kalb Co.
8. Richard (Gibson or Gilbert) GEDDES; b. Jun 1845 at (prob) Tuscarawas Co, OH; m. Ellen HASKINS 6 August 1871 in Lagrange Co, IN. Moved to Jackson Co, KS about 1879; then to Logan Co, OK around 1890, d. 1901 in Logan Co.
9. David (Wilson) GEDDES; b. 1847 at (prob) Tuscarawas Co, OH; d. 1892 in Lagrange Co, IN. Spouse not known.
10. Joseph A. GEDDES, b. abt 1850 in Tuscarawas Co, OH; d. 1914 in Baker Co, OR; m. Eva J. FRELIGH in 1871 in Lagrange Co, IN; married Emma MOELLER in 1909 in Baker, OR.
11. (Catherine) Lucinda GEDDES, b.1851 at Tuscarawas Co, OH; d. 1927 in Iroquois Co, IL; married John Henry ROSENBERRY in 1867 in Williams Co, OH.
12. Minerva Eliza GEDDES, b. abt 1854 at Ohio; d. 1927 in Lagrange Co, IN; m. Edwin C. HUSS in 1876 in Lagrange Co.
