It is believed that this family group begins with: John GADDIS b.abt. 1800-1810 maybe in Pa. or Ohio. d abt 1855-1859 in Evansville Ind. He might have married a Mary whose maiden name may have been FIELD or LE BLANC. John and Mary had five sons and one daughter. The mother was said to have died three years before the father. When the father died the oldest was abt 15. The children were orphaned and two of the boys were apprenticed out to the carpentry trade to a man named Grant at Millersburg Ind. From there the facts begin to gel.

The children were:

1.(1) George GADDIS(Gory or Gary) b. abt 1830-31 d. 22 Feb 1914 IL m.12 Mar 1857 to Julia BRILLHART. First furniture manufacture in Olney, Richland Co, Ill.

2.(1) John GADDIS b. 26 MAR 1836 d.12 May 1915, Fairfield, Wayne Co., IL First wife Mandana WALTON b. abt 1837 d. 1860 in Warrick Co., IN m. 1858 Warrick Co., IN. Second wife of John GADDIS was Ann Priscilla STILL b. 29 May 1841 in England d. 21 May 1915 Fairfield, Wayne Co., IL. m. 8 Aug 1861 Millersburg, Warrick Co., IN. John started the Phenix Flour Mill and milled 'Sky High' flour.

Little is known about the other children.

4.(1) Edwin (Edward) GADDIS b. 1851 m. Lillie STORCH 4 June 1884. Lived in Hazelton In.

5.(1) William GADDIS b. 16 Jan 1840 d. 6 Mar 1904 First wife Duck RICKETTS m. 27 Oct 1869. Second wife Dora or (Nora) SKAGGS 23 May 1880.

6.(1) Mary GADDIS may have married a man named GABLEMAN.


John GADDIS and Mandana WALTON had one child: Mary Olive GADDIS b. 1859 d. 1939 m. Lewis H WILSON and A.S.JESSOP (buried in Maple Hill Cemetary, Fairfield, Wayne Co., IL as Mary O GADDIS)
