This Irish pair were born in County Mayo, Ireland. The immigrated to Canada with their children in 1824 and settled in West Brock. The earliest mention of John Doble that I have found is in the 1828 Canada Company papers which can be found online at Canadiana.org John Double in the Canada Company papers for Township of Brock, under names of all Settlers placed before 1st October 1828. His date of settlement is May 1827, Lot 4 Concession 3. Also mentioned in this same document, is Luke Doble, John's brother on S. half Lot 5, Concession 4. He is listed under settlements made between 1st September and 20th December 1830. John's brother Robert listed in the Canada company papers for lands disposed of in 1839, N 1/2 Lot 11, Conc 13, Reach. John and Mary also appear in the 1851 census of Brock Twp transcribed at OGSPI. John, Luke and Robert Doble also appear in documents supporting Michael Carrigan against the charge of High Treason |
