PETE & DORA MILLER

Peter Miller and Dora Eckerdt were both born in the German colonies along the Volga River in southern Russia. You can read more about the German Russians on a separate website, but we hope you'll return to learn more about this Miller family line. Pete and Dora are in the pictures at left. The Miller newlyweds are depicted in the top photo, taken March 21, 1909 in Longmont, Colorado. The bottom photo was taken in about 1956 in Chadron, Nebraska.

Of all the Miller-Maiden ancestors, we probably know the least about the Miller family. With gratitude to many members of the Behm family from Unterdorf -- many of whom have passed away -- we can piece together a few snippets about the Pete Miller early years and some of his family, most of whom we've lost track. Nonetheless, the possibility of some Canadian relatives has been uncovered, and we'll be exploring that in the days ahead.

Pete Miller came to the United States with his older sister Eva, who was married to Alex Behm. Their families settled and flourished in western Nebraska, and we would be remiss not to include some information here about the Behm family, which shall be forthcoming. Many thanks to long-time family correspondent Gayle Behm, who continues to keep in touch.

The Eckerdt family came from the village of Schwed, just a few kilometers east of Saratov, a major city along the Volga. More family information may be found in the Eckerdt Family Tree.

Peter Miller and Dora Eckerdt Miller didn't meet in Russia. Their paths wouldn't cross until about 1906 or so when both were living in Longmont, Colorado, and they were married on Sunday morning March 21, 1909. Subsequently, they lived in Illinois, South Dakota, and finally settled in the village of Whitney, Nebraska.
