Oliver Lines of Descent from Olivers in the Indigo Group 13 of the Oliver Y DNA Project
This web page was first mounted on November 23, 2010 by Sheila Schmutz. [email protected] and updated on November 24, 2010. This is a private webpage that is connected to the Oliver Y DNA Project of Family Tree DNA. Please address corrections and additions to her. If you wish to correspond with other participants whose lines are shown, she will forward your message to them.
This webpage focuses only on the men who are highlighted in Indigo or Group 13, among the many Oliver men who have been tested thus far. By late November, 2010 there were 2 men who matched at 23 of 25 markers. The detailed data on their markers appears on the Oliver Y DNA project homepage under Y-DNA results.
The genealogy shown below for the men in this group has been contributed by them or their wives.
Note that the names of the participants and their Fathers are not shown to protect the privacy of the individuals. If individuals do not wish their line to be shown at all, please contact me and I will respect your wishes.
Some evidence found by Margaret T. Oliver and her late husband Hugh in their book "Sketches of the Olivers.......", (p. 195-196) suggest that a Richard Oliver living in Rowan Co, NC had sons Isaac and Richard Oliver, Jr. that were living in Clark County, Kentucky by 1800. These two brothers married two sisters: Hannah and Rachel Conkwright. We would be very interested in a descendant of Isaac Oliver being Y DNA tested.
Hugh and Margaret Oliver further suggest that Richard Sr. had a brother John with sons John Jr., William, and Reason (p. 196 - 198) born in the 1750s in Rowan Co, NC. There was a John Oliver who died in Clark Co, KY in 1796 leaving some young children but if and how he is related, I can't determine.
Note that some other Oliver Families, perhaps the John and William Oliver families mentioned above, also lived in Clark Co, KY in the late 1700s that are not related to these families according to Y DNA testing - see the Bright Yellow Group page. This would suggest that John Sr. is not a brother of Richard Sr.
