Oliver Lines of Descent from Olivers in the Magenta Group, Carolina Ancestor

This webpage focuses only on the men who are highlighted in magenta, among the many Oliver men who have been tested thus far.

I am not related to this group but present this page as a "sister" page to the one on the men in the "bright yellow group", to whom I am related. Both groups have a connection to Georgia. I have had a long standing interest in the Oliver Families who settled in Georgia, and some of these did.

Note that the names of the participants and their Fathers are not shown to protect the privacy of the individuals. If individuals do not wish their line to be shown at all, please contact me and I will respect your wishes.

The chart above illustrates the lines of the 6 men who have been Y DNA tested and match. An additional person who has not been tested, is shown with the same name, but in another line.

Possible Ancestors

The common ancestor for this group is not yet known with certainty. It would seem that William Oliver who was born in 1773 in North Carolina and died in 1870 in Emmanuel County, Georgia is likely the ancestor of some of them. He had 6 sons. One born in 1804, 1811, 1815, 1825, 1827, and 1839. Given this timespan they probably did not all have the same mother. This William Oliver was living in Emmanuel Co, GA by the 1820 census. In this same census and county was a John G. Oliver (26-45) with sons, and a John Oliver (26-45) with no sons. Whether these men were related is not known.

Other Oliver Men Who Lived in North or South Carolina in the 1700s.

An Alexander Oliver who is said to have been born in Ireland in 1736, lived in Anderson Co, SC which is along the Georgia border. He is buried in the Pickens Cemetery, in Anderson Co, SC and a relatively recent tombstone was erected commemorating his service in the Revolutionary War. He left a will which was probated in 1831, although he died in 1816.

A James Oliver died between 19 June 1799 when his will was written and 4 March 1803 when it was probated in Abbeville District, SC. Other researchers report his death date as 7 Oct 1802 and his wife as Mary Graham.

A Peter Oliver served in the Revolutionary War from North Carolina according to the Revolutionary War Pension Applications. He lived in Orangeburg District, SC in 1832.

A Jilson Oliver born in 1754 in Amherst Co, VA, served in the Revolutionary War from Bedford Co, VA according to the Revolutionary War Pension Applications. He later lived in Surry Co, NC and lived in Pickens District, SC by 1832.

A John Oliver was born about 1744 in Chowan Co, NC and died about 1796 in Bertie Co, NC according to several postings on RootsWeb. Another John Oliver was born about 1755 in VA and died in 1810 in either Lincoln Co, NC or Northampton Co, NC. He married Mary Thorp.
