AULT FERGUSON. KILLING OF TETRICK
APRIL 9, 1943
He said Ault Ferguson was a tall, raw-boned fellow with pock marks on
his face, and a bad man. It was about Christmas of 1876. That he killed
Tetric. The latter worked at Snow’s
Mills down on the Leon
River. (Between Alexander
and Pecan Creeks,
just before they flowed into the river.
At the time Mr. Wilson and his uncle Tom Pierson were down at Pulltight,
the village sometimes called Old Hamilton. That Uncle Tom worked in
Beekman and Forrester’s store at that time. There were about two stores
at Pulltight, a blacksmith shop, and a few houses. Ferguson and Tetric
came up tot eh store and then rode away.
Tetric was a sort of gambler himself and it was probable he said that
they were going somewhere to a game. It wasn’t long after they left
until they heard a shot fired. Tertric’s mare, splattered with blood,
ran back to Snow’s Mill. Then George--brother-in-law of Tetric, rode the
horse up to the store. Mr. Williams and Uncle Tom Pierson got on horses
and rode down to where the body was.
Evidently to get around a waterhole in the road Tetric had run on
ahead, and Ferguson had shot him in the back. Then after he fell he seemed
to have shot him in the side of the head since there were powder burns.
Tetric had little money on him and only a little "saltshaker"
pistol, which was a small pistol with a square barrel with four holes. He
said there was a plan to be carried out before he was killed, but that one
man’s guess was a good as another.
