RUTHERFORD AND PIERSON, LAWYERS

C. W. (Neilly) Rutherford - there was a firm of Eidson, Pierson, & Rutherford that existed for a while. Then for years there was Eidson and Pierson in the old rock building on the south side. Bell and Eidson were never partners. In those days lawyers were fighters and not afraid. Once Eidson and Bell were on opposite sides of a case and one made some statement. The other said "That compels me to say what you say is untrue. The other said, "That compels me to say that is a .... lie." And they went together (Two of the best lawyers in Texas later, Bell attorney general. Eidson on the Austin Court of Civil Appeals.
