Then Bird and John W. Parker (my father’s first law partner, who moved to Pecos (killed by a truck in World War One), said he would have a cinch. He didn’t think he would be elected, but he was, beating Will C. Graves, who had been deputy. Said it was Miss Dodd Graves, who wrote the beautiful hand when Ed Secrest was clerk. (Along about 1900.)
