ANOTHER DRUNKEN IRISHMAN

Dr. Gregg drank a good deal. Old Man Scoggins or Scroggins, who married John L. Spurlin’s mother. S. R. Scoggins, or Scroggins, had been sheriff down in Falls County, but he didn’t amount to anything much after he came here. He got into a drunken brawl with an Irish well driller in Mattheson’s Saloon night, got his head cut up, and called for Dr. Gregg. And the doctor asked Mr. Williams to go with him. He would pause and take a drink while dressing his head.

(Mr. Williams started to tell a story about Old Man John Howard, when someone came and he was interrupted, and didn’t get the story.)
