ANOTHER DRUNKEN IRISHMAN
Dr. Gregg drank a good deal. Old Man Scoggins or Scroggins, who married
John L. Spurlin’s mother. S. R. Scoggins, or Scroggins, had been sheriff
down in Falls County, but he didn’t amount to anything much after he
came here. He got into a drunken brawl with an Irish well driller in
Mattheson’s Saloon night, got his head cut up, and called for Dr. Gregg.
And the doctor asked Mr. Williams to go with him. He would pause and take
a drink while dressing his head.
(Mr. Williams started to tell a story about Old Man John Howard, when
someone came and he was interrupted, and didn’t get the story.)
