GEORGE N. GENTRY

Gentry was the main leader of the gang or mob. It was "Gentry against the field." When Adam Witcher and Old Man Witcher were killed in 1873, the Witchers were out of the picture in the dynamics of the community. Gentry ruled the mob, ruled the county for years, and many outside of the gang. It was him against the whole field.

Right after the Civil War others came in, the nesters and squatters as they were called. That they were looking for a place in the sun, not just for a place to farm. Down there Old Man Sol Barron had cattle, goats, and so on--couldn’t remember just the expression he used, "blood and dirt," or something like that.
