The next morning after receiving word of the killing, Tom Pierson, who
was at the time a deputy under Gentry, started out to arrest David Kemp
and Hysaugh. He was gone all day and all night, and the next day Grandma
Pierson was alarmed and wanted Mr. Williams to get somebody and go and see
what had happened. Incidentally, he was only nineteen at the time.
Uncle Tom did not say just how the arrest was made. But he knew that
Crockett Hendricks would know where they were or would have them
somewhere. He went to Hendricks and told him that he had to have him. They
were hiding out in a cave further on. The supposition is that Hendricks
then sent for them to come in. That night they all stayed at Hendricks’
house.
