OLD CAPTAIN HUNT
He said that Captain Hunt was a pleasant fellow. Mrs. Hunt he said was
a dope fiend. She stayed down at Grandma
Pierson’s hotel for some time. Doctor Miller claimed to be able to
cure her, but didn’t do any good. She told him about Captain Hunt’s
killing the man down in the southern part of the state. He thought he had
to leave that county on that account.
(Told him about running across this case in the old criminal reports.
This was a very bad thing, shot the man in the buggy with his small boy,
though it seems Captain Hunt was respected there, and left a good family.
His son, John Hunt, told me he and my father took a train load of cattle
to Chicago and that he there bought the big trunk which I still have. Mr.
Hunt had five girls, all of whom I knew.)
