Hamp McCain was a good man. He was no kin to Mrs. McCain, the widow. (She was a daughter of Mr. William Moore, who once had a sheep ranch, brother to Ed Moore, the banker. Did sewing. Had three girls: Med, later a crisp and strict teacher, Flora, and Bodie. The latter two I started to school with. Understood Mrs. McCain’s husband just ran off!

Mr. Williams said he had come to see, and I did not agree with him, that some of the ideas of those fellows about preserving the country in its pristine beauty and freedom was not all wrong, but that their ways and means were wrong.
