Abisha is probably male, and also probably the father of Leroy Thomas Williams,
Sr.] Abisha Williams paid
taxes on 95 acres situated either on Station Camp Creek or Red River Creek in
Sumner County, Tennessee in 1818, 1819, and 1820. In the 1820 tax entry, the
"Briggance Heirs" are mentioned, with "Harvey R. Willis" as
their agent. I wonder if this should not be "Henry R. Willis", as one
Henry Richard Willis married Patsy Briggance 31 DEC 1804 (Daniel Willis,
bondsman). Red River Creek drains portions of districts 18, 19, and 20. Station
Camp Creek drains portions of Districts 6, 10, and 11 (the thingy said 6, 11,
and 12; but that isn't where they drew it on the map). The highest part of
Station Camp Creek and the highest part of Red River Creek almost meet at a
ridge that runs mostly East-West through Sumner County. In a deed from John
MITCHELL (1826), he states he has a 17.5 acre tract held in deed from Abisha
WILLIAMS. John MITCHELL goes on in the same deed to mention John BRIGGANCE.

Notes for Jasper
Newton Brigance: Reverend J. N.
Brigance Obituary, in the Friday, February 3, 1905 in Fort Smith Elevator Rev. J. N. Brigance
died recently at his home one mile north of Mulberry at the advanced age of 70
years. For forty-six years he had been a minister of the
gospel in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He received his education
at Cane Hill College. Writing to the
Little Rock Democrat a special
correspondent from Mulberry says of him; "He came to this neighborhood in
1859 and was pastor of the historic congregation on Mulberry Creek until
the call to arms in 1861 when he enlisted as aprivate, served under General W.
L. Cabell and was finally captured with General Cabell on Price's
great raid in Missouri. But when his
captor turned his attention to other
parties, he made his escape, leaving his general in the hands of the
enemy. He often preached to the boys in
camp and he became a favorite of
"Old Tige" who would often take his seat near the preacher's stand and listen to
his sermon. The Rev. J. N. Brigance was
one of God's noblemen and the loss
of this good man will be felt by a host of friends. He was married in 1866 to the oldest daughter
of W. C. Quesenbury, who was killed in
1864. He leaves a widow and one
daughter and two sons and several
grandchildren. The funeral services
were conducted by Rev. S. S. Key of the M. E.
Church. Pleasant Hill Lodge 233, A, F/
A. A., of which he was a charter member,
performed the ritual of the order. More About Jasper

<Bedford County, Tennessee>9. He married (1) Mary Caroline Lentz 21 Dec 1872 in Bedford

Springer. She was born 23 Jan 185411,
and died 10 May 187811.
He married (2) Kitty W. Bruster 12 Dec 1878 in Bedford County,
Tennessee, daughter of Hugh Bruster and Nancy Lentz. She was born 02 Nov 1861 in TN12, and died 02
May 1935 in <Bedford County, Tennessee>12. He married (3) Annie unknown ABT.
1907 in PROB. TN. She was born ABT.
1867 in TN. Notes for Leroy Thomas
"Tom" Williams: Leroy Thomas
"Tom" Williams, Jr. was married three times. His first two wives were
1st cousins (i.e., Mary Caroline Lentz and Kitty Bruster were cousins because
they were both grand-daughters of Benjamin F. Lentz). Sometimes Thomas
Williams is confused with Thomas E. Williams of Bedford County, TN of about the
same era. This confusion arises by virtue of the death certificate of his son,
William Williams, whereupon it is
stated that his father was Thomas E. Williams. Whether this is an error of
ignorance or communication, I know not. In any case, THIS Thomas Williams is
the one buried next to his brother Zachary and their parents with a tombstone
reading "Thomas Lee Williams". From the census records, it can be
seen (particularly in the 1860 census, where he is called "L. T.,
Jr.") that he is more properly called Leroy Thomas Williams, Jr., and that
he was by the name "Tom", and probably also sometimes
"Thomas". I believe he was called by his middle name to distinguish
him from his father, Leroy Thomas Williams, Sr., who was called by "Lee",
as in, short for "Leroy". I believe it was this name truncation
("Leroy" to "Lee") which led to Leroy Thomas Williams, Jr.
being buried as "Thomas Lee Williams". 1850 Census, Bedford
