Genetics

This family is lucky to have so many descendants actively researching the clan. A consortium of these folks has been created in an effort to secure DNA samples from these Stephensons' descendants (and/or people who may be their descendants); and from the descendants of their wives - in order to help further elucidate their origins. The consortium is also actively engaged in finding financial donors (usually $10 to $25 per person) to support the effort. More information about the consortium can be found here:

If you are interested in being included in the consortium, then please e-mail Gregg Bonner using the e-mail address shown at the bottom of this page.

Principle Findings from the DNA Analysis:

1. The fact that a male-line descendant of Alexander Campbell Stephenson (1780-1859) matches descendants of Edward Stephenson of Bedford County, Tennessee (1774-1868) rather proves that Alexander and Edward are brothers, and thus Edward is the son of the Robert Stephenson who died in Jefferson County in 1793.

2. The fact that a male-line descendant of Edward Stephenson of Paint Lick, Kentucky matches more or less exactly with the descendants of Robert Stephenson (d. 1793) demonstrates that the "Paint Lick" Stephensons are related, and that it is very likely that the Edward Stephenson killed in Kentucky by Native Americans in 1792 is the brother of the Robert Stephenson who died in 1793, in Jefferson County.
