  • The State Flag of Tennessee:
    • Adopted April 17, 1905, the flag features three stars representing the grand divisions of the state: East, Middle and West. The stars are bound together in indissoluble unity by an unending white band.

  • Tennessee has Six State Songs:
    • The first of six official state songs is:
      • "My Homeland, Tennessee" Written by Nell Grayson Taylor
    • This song became the second in 1935:
      • "When It's Iris Time In Tennessee" Written by Willa Waid Newman
    • The song that became the third in 1955 was:
      • "My Tennessee" Written by Frances Hannah Tranum
    • This song became the fourth in 1965:
      • "Tennessee Waltz" Written by Redd Stewart Composed by Pee Wee King
    • This song became the fifth in 1982:
      • "Rocky Top" Written by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant
    • And the sixth of six official state songs in 1992:

  • Tennessee was named after the Cherokee Indian villages called "Tanasi".
  • On June 1, 1796, Tennessee was the 16th state to be admitted to statehood.
  • Motto: Agriculture and commerce.
  • Nicknamed: The Volunteer State.
  • State Bird: Mockingbird, selected in 1933.
  • Tree: Tulip Tree, adopted in 1947.
  • Flower: Iris, adopted in 1933.
