Belsher in the Civil War

        BELSHERS/BELCHER CIVIL WAR

BELSHER is a variant of BELCHER, BELCHE,BELSHE
The Belcher surname was changed many times over the years. Census Takers were the main reason for most variants. They wrote as the name sounded, many people couldnt read or write so they just wrote how the people said it and many accents were different. Also people who transcribe records often was mistaken in their translation of letters.
The surname Belsher for the Civil War files are listed below. If you have any that aren't Belcher or Belsher let us know.
Ken Belsher has added some of his research and the rest was added by us

        Ken Belsher's G-Uncle and brother

I believe this is Arthur Middleton Belsher and not Malone. Arthur Middleton is used for naming a couple of descendants of the Berrien Troupe Belsher families. Arthur Malone might be a different person in Alabama. Arthur Middleton Belsher lived primarily in Mississippi.
