        CSA BELCHERS "K and L"

        Belcher L. A.
        (D.) TX 13 Vol H2 C P
Note: On Broadfoot list as L. D. Muster roll has him as L. A. in box 227, extraction 3, and record 862. On CWSR as L. A. Belcher. The 13 TX consisted of Cavalry, Artillery, and Infantry (same as a Legion)

        Belcher L. F.
        VA 8 Cav E C
Note: Spelled Belche on Internet. There was a Z. P. Belcher in same Co. (the Z. P. does not show on the regiment roster) Neither name is on Broadfoot roster nor muster roll. He is not on regiment roster. There were six Belchers in regiment, but no Belche or anything close.
I am fairly certain L. F. Belcher did not serve in the 8th VA Cav or any other Confederate unit. I tend to believe the Regimental history would be the best source and he is not shown there or in the CWSR. My data base now contains 6 names, but I tend to believe only 4 of them were in the unit. Those with (asterisk). HDS still has not shown a roster for the 8th VA Cav.

        Belcher Leroy A
        VA 10 Batln (Allens) H. Art C C P
Note: I have read that there were three Leroys in this organization. Unlikely that three Leroys were in same unit, maybe two. The VA Archives lists Leroy A. and Leroy W. and so does Broadfoot. Muster roll for Leroy of box 382, extraction 4, and record 2728. .On CWSR as Leroy.

        Belcher Lee
        VA CSA Navy C Seaman
Note: Seaman on ship "Richmond". Noted on Virginia Archives as on leave at the evacuation of Richmond. Jim Belcher was also on the same ship Not on Broadfoot or muster roll.
Note: I believe Lee may be Leroy W. This is based on an entry regarding Leroy W. which states:

Leroy W. Belcher enlisted 12/15/61 in the 8th VA regiment Richmond, VA "Wilkinson's Battery VA Artillery." Later served in Co. C 10th VA Reg. listed vol. 19, p. 93. Born 1835 Chesaterfield Co. VA. Occ: Carpenter Jamestown Island. 10th VA Art Captain James Wilkinson transferred to the Navy May 1862. Was on the ship Richmond last of May 1862. when it was burned last of April 1865 was in the Army till new appointment. applied for a pension 12 July 1911, age 76..

        Belcher Leroy W.
VA H.Art. Capt. Wilkinson Co. C 12/15/61 Tr 10 BtlnHA
        Leroy W. VA 10 Batln (Allens) H. Art C C
Note: Broadfoot roster only shows him in the Wilkinsons Co., Marion VA Heavy Artillery. Muster roll shows Leroy W. in box 382, extraction 4, and record 2729 with alternate unit of 10 Battalion, VA Heavy artillery. Enl. on 12/15/61 in Richmond, VA. Pres. on 2/1/62 roll. Later served in the 10th Battn. VA HA according to some records. Wilkinsons Company may be, in fact, part of the 10th battalion and there is really one unit. CWSR shows Leroy W. and Wilkinson's Co as part of 10th Batt'n of VA Heavy Art..

        Levi Belcher
Residence not listed; son of John Wesley Belcher Enlisted on 9/1/1862 at Salyersville, KY as a Private. On 9/1/1862 he mustered into "G" Co. Levi KY 5MTD Inf C C 11/24/62 P W Chikmauga,Joneville
Note: Entry in roster of book for VA State Rangers and VA State Line states: Co. C, 5th VA SL, participated in Menefees Raid in Piketon KY in 8/62. Service confirmed by Dils vs. May lawsuit filed in Pike Co. Circuit Court in 1866. NFR. The 5th VA SL was organized 2/9/63 from Hounshells Battalion VA. I have found no records accounting for Hounshalls Bn., but the 5th SL entry indicates he must have been in 8/62 because the 5 SL did not organize until 2/63.
About the time the 5 SL was organized, the VA conscription laws were expanded to include men in VA SL and the "men scattered the first night in camp", Pendelton wrote. The sole result of this org was the "dissemination of numerous empty military tiles. The men who had joined this battalion, were absorbed by different regiments in the regular Confederate Army." Not on broadfoot nor muster roll for 5 SL.
Levi probably never served in the 5 SL and he enlisted in the 5th KY Inf. (CSA). Broadfoot has a Levi listed for the 5th KY and HDS has the following: "Residence not listed. Enlisted 9/1/62 at Salyersville, KY as a Pri. on 9/1/62 mustered in Co. G, 5th KY Inf. (date, method of discharge not given). He was w. 9/20/63 at Chickamauga, GA, W. 8/31/64 at Jonesboro, GA. Wounded at Chickamauga, GA 9/20/63, and Jonesville, GA 8/31/64.
Son of John Wesley, Sr. and Anna Moore (M. 18Dec 1832). John Wesley was in 10th KY Cav. CSA. He was married to Margaret Blevins, daughter of Linkhorn Blevins and Sarah Sally Belcher. I believe he enlisted in 1st VA SL when his one year elistment was completed in the 5th KY Inf. The 1st VA SL was organized in late 1862 and was disbanded by 4/1/63. Co. C was an infantry co. and many of the men came from Logan Co., VA. Capt. John Buchanan commanded the Co. and he was sworn in 8/26/62. some of the men transferred to the 45th VA Bn Inf.
