Belchers who served in KY Units in CW
This is a good place to discuss a few of the men of Ky in the CW and show
how difficult it is to really know who they were and in what units they
served. In the Belcher Blue Research page there is a pedigree for James
Belcher son of George which shows the following:
Martin son of James Belcher.

identical to the one for M. above which is intended to be Martin. There is
a second entry for M. in 27 VA, Co. B which is new to me. There was a
Martin in the 50 VA and 31 VA.

the men in the 14th KY Cav and 10 KY Cav are identical with the roster of
the 10 KY Cav. The HDS does not have the 10 KY Cav Yankee Chasers that
served from 1863 to 1865. It has a 10 KY Cav that served for a year earlier
in the war as the KY Partisan Rangers.

Marion J. Belcher - 4th Sergeant to May 8, 1862. Enlisted July 26, 1861.
Discharged on disability from frozen feet and eyes injured on retreat from
Bowling Green, Kentucky in February 1862. Enlisted in Company H, 9th
Tennessee Cavalry, The 23rd Tennessee Infantry Regiment was organized on
July 31, 1861 at Camp Trousdale, Sumner County, Tennessee with ten
companies of approximately one hundred men each. It gave a good account of
itself at Shiloh, Tennessee on April 6 thru 7, 1862. With 570 men engaged
it came out of the battle with 327 effectives. Then in Bragg's Invasion of
Kentucky was present at the surrender of the Union forces at Munfordville,
Kentucky and taking an active part in the battle at Perryville, Kentucky
with 201 men engaged of which 52 were casualities. At Murfreesboro with 272
engaged, lost 63 men. Next we find them at Hoover's Gap, Tennessee losing
five more. At Chickamauga, Georgia with 26 men sent to the rear barefooted,
181 were engaged, with ninety-eight casualities. source:-Muster Roll For
the 23rd Tennessee Infantry, 2nd Company.

Moore Belcher in 19th VA Cav. He was not in either the 19 CAv or 29 Cav.,
but a M. M. is listed in the 29th VA Inf. I believe the name is right and
the unit wrong. The note went on to say that he married Margaret in Feb.

prisoner in PA and enlisted 16 June 1863as Private in Lee Co., VA HDS does
