Early Belcher Research and Documents in England

This Genealogy has been sent to us by Valerie Martin from Kent in England. Valerie's family have Belchers in their ancestry. She doesnt wish to have her E-Mail online so if you have any questions please let me know.
I am placing the pages she has sent online as is, so you can see the information as I received it.

Quoted from Valeries E-mails:
I got the pedigree from Northampton Records. It starts in the early 16th century.
An interesting name is Alice Spencer, whose first husband was Edmund Belcher who died in 1529. I can`t help spectulating that she was a member of the Spencer`s of Althorpe Hall (Princess Diana`s ancestors) which is near Guilsborough. Both the Belcher and Spencer families made their money from the prosperous wool trade. Henry VIII built the first Grammar Schools, of which there was one in Guilsborough. Dabridgecourt Belcher and his brother John Belcher went there and became well educated. They went on to Oxford and I think Cambridge Universities then the Inner Temple London where Dab.Belcher became a lawyer. Both went to Leiden in what is now Holland in 1620, where many Puritans and religious dissidents went, and then many of these went on to New England. But Dab. Belcher and John died in 1621, some sort of plague I imagine, leaving widows and children behind in England. They were fairly young - about 40 years old.
They evidently weren`t interested in carrying on the family estate and farm, and things started to deteriorate from then, whereas the Spencer`s went up in the world.
I will expand upon this later, as there some interesting stories and will send copies of coats-of arms, which I`ll transfer to a folder and send as an attachment. There is an early coat-of-arms, among dozens, on the ceiling St George`s Hall, Windsor Castle. As you may know there was a terrible fire at the castle a few years ago and the Hall and Chapel were destroyed but have been rebuilt and restored. The coat-of-arms on the ceiling is that of Sir John Dabridgecourt, a Knight of the Garter, 1413. He must be an ancestor of Christian Dabridgecourt who married William Belcher and who were parents of Dabridgecourt. It`s a very unusual name. and there can`t be many of them.
There`s another , earlier coat-of-arms, of Sir Sanchet D`Abrichecourt, same design but with silver background instead of white.
Another E-mail:
Belchers! They lived in several villages including Charney Bassett, West Hannay, and the small town of Faringdon where the names often occur. My mother`s side descended from a branch in Faringdon where they owned almost a whole street of shops until comparatively recently. The church has several Victorian stained glass memorial windows. They had land and manors till the Industrial Revolution, then astutely moved into town while retaining the manors, and opened shops. I have a wine bottle with Belcher & Habgood upon it, and a large stone beer bottle also with the name.
The memorials are difficult to read, having worn away in parts. The divisions in paragraphs mark the beginning of a new line on the memorials. I should really type them out again. The photos were taken in 1993. The paintwork was wearing away on Edward`s Arms and I hate to think what Edward`s memorial is like now. England is a small country and you would think it`s easy to get around, but our traffic problem is horrendous and roads are constantly being repaired causing long delays.
The document entitled `The Belcher Arms' was sent to me by another member of the Belcher family.
I have a lot more info I can send including a coloured drawing of the Belcher Arms, which needs touching up before I e-mail it, and photos, it`s just a question of sorting out and time.

Inquiries and E-Mails

also, viewing the guestbook below will give you many inquiries.

I was reading your web pages concerning your work on the Belcher line. My mother was a Belcher, and was born on the Belcher Farm in Franklin Country, Virginia, at Snow Creek. Her father was William I. Belcher, of which, not much is known in our family, as he was 61 years old when my mother was born, or so the story goes. We lost my mother Odessa Belcher Stiles 4 years ago at the age of 87. I would very much appreciate any information you would have on this Belcher (William I.) and his ancestors.
Thank you very much,
Gordon Stiles

Im writing to you after seeing the website you established for the geneology of the Belcher family among others. After seeing this website i was wondering if you could help me with a few questions. Before that I should introduce myself, my name is David Belcher im 21 and live in Australia with my parents John and Jenny Belcher and my two brothers Michael and Matthew. My grandfather was Ron Belcher who emmigrated from England sometime before the 2nd World War. I was wondering if the belchers you speak of are related to my own family?
Thank you very much for your time
Yours sincerly

I am interested in the Belcher Genealogy, being as I go to Isom Belcher and Rebecca Bailey through their son James M. "Mack" Belcher, my g. grandfather. I am trying to prove that Isom's father Isham II is the son of Isham Belcher I who died in Wythe Co., VA about 1790. I am, also, looking for the marriage documentation of Isham Belcher and Elizabeth Clay.
Rebecca Bailey was the d/o Rueben Bailey and Sarah Ferguson. Rueben being a son of Richard Bailey and Elizabeth Anne Belcher. Sarah being a daughter of Samuel Ferguson and Mary Jameson. James M. "Mack" Belcher's wife was Elizabeth J. Brooks the d/o of Henry Brooks and Mary "Polly" Shrewsbury. Mary was the d/o of John Shrewsbury and Elizabeth Bailey with John the s/o of Jeremiah Shrewsbury and Mary ?, and Elizabeth the d/o of Richard Bailey Jr. and Isabell Ferguson. Therefore, I go to Richard Bailey Sr. and Samuel Ferguson twice.
Thank you for your posting and for any help you can give me.
Sincerely,
Carla (Belcher) Kettell

I am writing because I have been doing research for my family name. It happens to be Belcher. I am in the military and stationed in San Antonio, Texas. I have several documents from my family about John Belcher of Jackson County, Missouri and the purchase of land. I also have documents of a Jno. H. Belcher from Plainview, Texas for the sale of land in Grayson County, Texas. I believe he is a son of the earlier Belcher listed above or possibly a brother. I have papers from a Thomas J. Belcher in the Texas Calvary Co. B in 1863.
I also have some documents, pictures and tea sets from Belcher history. The tea sets were supposedly gifts from England upon the delivery of cattle. I believe Belcherville was one of my early relatives founding, John Belcher. I believe you folks were offering a DNA test. I am interested in this. I would truly like to find out where my family name comes from. Please let me know if you have more information on any of this.
Thank you,
Kevin S. Belcher

I stumbled upon your website for the Belchers and I wonder if my ancestors were in any way related to your ancestors.
My name is Joyce [Belcher] Blauvelt. My son did some research on our family, but cannot get into the English records. All I have: My great great-grandfather: Joseph Belcher, born 5/29/1820 in England, moved to Canada in 1869, married Sarah (last name unknown) born 5/9/1839. My great great-grandfather died 1/28/1871. He had 2 sons - George born 11/9/1859 and Joseph W. born 6/2/1863. Joseph W. was my great-grandfather. He was married to Agnes (last name unknown). They had a son Albert (my grandfather) born 1886; died 1968. Their son, Kenneth M. was my father, born 10/1912, died 3/1968.
If you have come across any of the above information during your family research, I would very much appreciate what you might have found. I would love to get back into England and continue the search, but we can't seem to get beyond my great-great grandfather.
Thank you for your time.

Was wondering what info you might have on Nancy Yates married to William Belcher? My greatgrandfather (Thompson (aka Thomas) Yates) was born in Russell Co Va about 1827in the home of Joshua Yates and I am trying to find any Yates connections. Thomas ended up in 1853 married to Nancy Pennington.
Thank you for your time

I'm originally from Reading, England. My Dad, his dad and his dad all lived in Reading, although there is talk of a "naughty" Belcher being sent away to Bristol to make his living in about 1850.
In the early 20's my great grandad, John Belcher (there are lots of John's in the family) started an Engineering business (AJB Engineers) in Reading. It lasted till my Dad retired in 1980.
There is also talk of a great fortune secreted somewhere, and if it were possible to prove that my Uncle, John Belcher, is a descendent of the other John, the money's ours! Sadly I have no idea as to where it might be!
It's been very interesting to look at some of the history. Thanks for your work. (I also see there's a Belcher, Kentucky... though I've never been)
Cheers for now

I am trying to verify that Robert is the son of Edmund, living in Charlotte County, VA 1769. Edmund was married to Mary????. I also need the father of Edmund.......John, I believe and would like to know how I can find wills to prove that they were landed before 1700. I shall appreciate any help. Robert is my patriot for the DAR, but don't have proof prior to him.
Mother: Frances Hardee Fatherree of Clarke County, Mississippi, documented the above information in the 1950's..........on record DAR Headquarters in Washington.
