Some of our earlier Ancestors were slaves even though they were white.
Many were bonded slaves and came to America as slaves to families then gained their freedom here. Some bonded themselves out for so many years for passage to America.
Some carried the Belcher surname and were black.

      Inquiries

This first inquiry is of special interest to me (Gayl).
Allie Belcher Chaney is my grandmother and she married Tommy Owens secondly.
If anyone has any information on the Owens side of this family please let Jackie know.

      Hello Gayle,
I'm throughly enjoying your website on the Belcher's. My connection to the Belcher name goes back to Saphronia Allie Belcher and Thomas (Tommy) Owens. Thomas was a brother to Samuel Savanah Owens who is my great grandfather.
How are you related to this line and would you have any info on any other Owens family members?

I was wondering if any of you Belchers had your 2nd and 3rd toes webbed on both feet. The webbing approaches the first joint in the toe. My mother said she thought it was in her line but not sure whether it was Beharrell, Belcher, Rothwell... My son also has the webbing in the toes so this must be a fairly dominant gene.

I am researching the Belcher family in Virginia and West Virginia. I have John M. Belcher born in Giles Co. Va and died in Cedar County, MO. He married Mary Holstine in Mercer County About 1855. Their first child, James was born in Virginia about 1856. I sure would love to find someone else researching this line.

Wonderful source of info to help with my research.
My GG grandfather was Greeley Belcher who married Louisa Ramey. He was a Constable and was shot and killed. My grandfather K. Hassel Belcher Sr. was also shot that day(he was around 17 at the time)but survived. Other than that I don't know much about him. My GGGG grandfather was Bartley Belcher who also married a Ramey (Rachel Ramey).
Most of my family still remain around Russell Co., VA.

What a great web site! I'm descended from James and Nancy Daniel of Tazewell Co. VA. They had 3 sons, Thomas, Isom and George. After James' death Nancy married Samuel Sellards and they moved to Floyd Co., KY. For years Nancy's maiden name remained a mystery. Last year I came across researchers in eastern Kentucky who say her name was Nancy Belcher. When I asked for the source, no one could provide any. Do you know of the Nancy Belcher who married James Daniel, and after his death married Samuel Sellards in Tazewell Co? If so, is there any documentation in public records or from family sources?
Thanks for your help and for your lovely web site. --Georganne Wilkinson

      I am a desendent of Orbie Williams b: 9/4/1916 &
Dolores Rama b: 2/12/1919. They were married and lived in Logan, West Virginia. Orbie and Dolores had two children, Hattie Jean Williams and Alice Ann Williams. I am the son of Hattie Jean (Jean Martin now). Orbie was raised by his Step-father whos name was either Eric or Alex Williams.
Dolores parents were Kelson Ramey (Rama) and Mollie McDonald.
I saw some info (http://www.familysearch.org/) that Kelson is the son of Henry Ramey and Adaline Tackett, but I saw no verification of this on your site. Any clues would be appreciated.

I am looking for info on my father, James Clack Belcher,
born Feb. 20, 1902 to Arthur Clifton Belcher and Nina Belle Barnes Belcher in Newton County (Covington), Georgia. Nina b. 12-18-1875 d. 7-23-1958 Arthur b. 7-18-1875 d, 6-27-1938. They married in Jasper, Ga. on 6-1-1899. Nina's parents were Thomas Homer Barnes and Martha Althea Thompson. Arthur's were Andrew Jackson Belcher and Leonora Gertrude Nix. My father was delivered by Dr. F. S. Belcher (Frances Seals?) and I believe also related to Archibald Seals Belcher (possibly of Monroe County, Ga. ) I did find a 1920 census Arthur C. and Nina B and son James C. in Newton County, Ga. but nothing more. My parents divorced when I was about three and he died in the fifties. I can find not a trace of him. Not even when he died in the Social Security info. I believe he was also related (neice?) to a Nina Allen in Atlanta, Ga. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ida Susan Belcher Albrecht.
