Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana

Welcome to the April Issue of the Belcher Blues Newsletter.
This Month's focus is on Genealogy in Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana
These states were all one territory at one time. Along with Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio parts of Tennessee, North Carolina and several other states. The first Europeans in this area were the French.
The Great Lakes area brought many fur traders and explorers into the area.
Many of our ancestors started in Virginia and Kentucky then migrated into these states.
In May we will be doing research in Maryland and Missouri
Along with other articles and starting some research in English Parish Records
We have access to some English parish records if you want a particular name before the 1800's looked up send the request along.

Hi, I just wanted to drop you a note and thank you for helping to fill in a gap in my family tree.
I am a direct descendant of Eliah Tottingham, through his son Elisha. I knew that Elisha had a sister named Arminal. And I knew their mother was "Mary".
But I did not know Mary's last name.
The following passage from your excellent site helps solve the riddle:
"8 6...JEREMIAH BELCHER B SEP 13 1701 when his father died he chose William Bryant of Rading for his guardian: lived in woburn for a time On sep 11 1747 was warned from Woburn. Later settled in Lunenburg Mass where he died in 1178 administration of his estate being given that year( Worcester co probate) MARRIED: 12 APRIL 1733 ARMINAL TOTTINGHAM OF WOBURN, Bl 30 July 1707 dau of Eliah and Mary Palmer Tottingham of Woburn."
So it looks very probable that Mary's last name was Palmer. And that would fit with another source, the family of a John and Elizabeth (Alger) Palmer who lived in Scarboro, Cumberland Co., Maine. They had a daughter named Mary who married someone named Elias Tottingham. I suspect that Elias and Eliah are two different spellings of the same man.
I have no idea how a man who lived in Woburn, MA in the late 1600's met a lady from Maine. But I think I'm on the right track. Thanks again for your help in giving me an important clue.

NOTE: We had a couple of inquiries on Loretta Lynn and Linda Loveless
if anyone has any information on these let us know

Hello,
I was just wondering
Where does Loretta Webb Lynn, the singer, fit into your Ramey genealogy tree? Her mother was Clara Ramey born 1912 and father was Melvin (Ted) Webb.
Clara's parents were Nathaniel and Sarah and then I think Nathaniel's parents were Charles Ramey and Rebecca Salyer and Charles' parents were William Ramey and Nellie Morton
thanks for your help
By the way, I am descended from Zachariah Wells. His daughter, Jemima Wells, married John Sturgill and my grandmother was a Sturgill.

I am wanting to know if you have a Family tree maker file you can share with me that contains the family line info for bluegrass singer Patty Loveless. I just found out yesterday she is a Ramey - Webb, at least that is what the interet said..
I am a Ramey descendant also, I come from William Ramey out of Pike county.. his daughter married my Stewart.
Just a few of my lines there are Holbrook, Ramey, Webb, Stewart, Fleming and Sturgill, Wellst etc. etc. so it is possible that Patty Loveless and my family have similar family ties..
. I believe my grandfather Gabriel Holbrook was related also to Loretta Lynn..
This info will really be for my family line use as I have little information on the Ramey lines. I would appreciate any help you can give, I am very proud of my Eastern Ky. Roots and family...
