Excellent Website!! I am descended from Phoebe Belcher Clay and Mitchell Clay of Mercer county West Virginia Steven Cribb Hi, Interesting sight. My interest is trying to track down Lincolnshire (UK)Belchers further back than 1812. Plus trying to establish link with those forebears who arrived from Normandy in the 11/12th Century. There is an outside chance of a link with Governor Belcher of Mass. Rod Belcher Birmingham England Hello, Searching for sisters or brothers of Hobert Ramey Sr. Searching for Lorenzo Dow Ramey. Sherry Belcher Nims Fort Mill, S.Carolina, Charlotte Hi, I want to tell you what a joy it is to get your Belcher Blues newsletter. It is beautiful and interesting. Lots of hard work! My husband is descended from a James Aldridge and Rachel Belcher way way back in VA in the early 1700s. I have never been able to determine her parentage. Their son, James, was born about 1760 in Montgomery Cty, VA and married a Rachel Treadway. I think the first James was a "Longhunter" with Dan'l Boone in about 1760 or so. They also had a daughter named Mary and maybe other children. I found online: His Excellency, Jonathan Belcher, Esquire appeared on the marriage bond for George Eggers to Avis Beard in 1749 in Freehold, Monmouth Cty, NJ. Perhaps a relative of Rachel? George Eggers and Avis Beard are also ancestors of my husband. Audrey Annable Franklin Loveland Colorado Note:This next inquiry was listed on the belcherforum but it is an old delima: Henry Isham was said to have had other children before he married Catherine Banks Royall Since Henry was the only Isham in the Bermuda Hundred and the first Isham to come to America he is listed as Phoebe Isham's Father in all the Belcher Genealogies I have seen. Isham is definitely in our lines as many were called Isham after Phoebe married Robert. If anyone has any information on this please let us know. We have had several inquiries on this line: I am sure this is an old subject for many of you, but I am looking for any documentation that relates to Phoebe Isham wife of Robert Belcher. I have had it in my files for some time (without evidence) that Phoebe was the daughter of Henry Isham and Katherine Banks. I have seen the contents of the Katherine Banks Will and she goes to great length to mention her children and grandchildren with no mention of a Phoebe or a Belcher. Clearly, Katherine was married to a Royall before her marriage to Henry Isham. Was Henry Isham married twice? I have that Robert Belcher was married in 1669 in Henrico Co., VA to Phoebe. Has anyone seen a marriage record or bond to verify this? Any help would be appreciated. My line runs through Isham Belcher who married Elizabeth Clay. Rick Lyons Dear Gayl, Hi, Thank you so very much for your response to my inquiry. I just found your web site and was very excited to read your information. I just recently learned about my grandfather's family. I joined the Gallia County Historical Society (Ohio) and was able to post an inquiry for information about my Ward family. Luckily a cousin responded to my posting. She let me know about my family history. My lineage is as follows: John Clay /Elizabeth France Charles /Clay Hannah Wilson Henry Clay/ Mary Mitchell William M. Clay /Martha Runyan Mitchell Clay/ Phoebe Belcher Patience Clay /George Chapman Archibald Chapman /Elizabeth Mills Isaac Chapman /Sarah Dawson Sarah Chapman /Isaac Ward David Archibald Ward/ Minnie Bay John Chapman Ward/ Mildred Grill Ruth Chapman Ward /Roger Andrew Gardner I have so enjoyed doing research on the families. Thank you for your information. I'll try to follow up on your research recommendations. I'll let you know if I find anything regarding Phoebe Isham. Sincerely, Kerry Gayl, Do you have a Moses E. and/or Robert H. Belcher in your database? My g grandfather was Ben Belcher who married Elvira Cosby Harman (harmon) . . . Ben's parents were Robert H. and Aurelia (sp?) Compton. I've tried to verify who Robert's parents were but I have conflicting info on whether it was Lura,or Laura Hurst or Nancy Tabor. Got any ideas? Brenda Belcher Winters Hello: I have made numerous, unsuccessful, attempts researching my Grandfather, Thomas Newton Belcher. He was born in 1874, in Butler County, Ky. His first wife, unknown, died leaving him with 6 yr old son, my uncle, Guy Newton Belcher. Granddad married Lucy Evans, my Grandmother, in 1904 in Logan Co. The 1910 Muhlenberg Co Census shows three children, including my father, Glenn Andrew Belcher.. Thomas Newton died 1934 and is buried in Central City, Ky. Oddly enough there is a Thomas Newton Belcher buried in Greenville, Ky, 1874-1966 I'm hoping you might know something about my Thomas Newton Belcher. You have a wonderful page being the most complete I have ever seen. Thank you. James Thomas Belcher |
