A beautiful site.
I was born and raised in Elkhorn City, Ky. My brother-in-law was Clyde Belcher who was H.G. Belcher's son.
I knew all the Belcher's on Little Beaver well. Especially Vince's family and their families.
Thanks for all the good memories this site has returned to me.

I'm trying to find information on my husband's father. My husband's name is James Mac Belcher, he was born in 1945, his father went by Mack Belcher. We do not know if that was his legal name or a nick name. We were told that Mack was killed in an auto accident in Lamar Colorado some where between the years 1946 and 1950. We were also told he had orther children and a brother whose name was Lee. We think Mack's fathers name was James but were not sure. Mack would have been in Oregon in 1945 then moved back to Colorado after my husband was born. I'm sorry for the lack of information, but I would greatly appreciate any help any one can give me. Thank You--Kathy E-Mail

I need to know who John Belcher was. He was in Arkansas about 1852. He had sons John, Isham, Thomas and one daughter Mary. John and Lucenda were born in Kentucky. His daughter married in Arkansas in 1852 and then the whole family except Mary moved on to Missouri.
I am lost after that.

My maiden name was Belcher and my family immigrated to South Australia in 1855, from London. The family had lived in London of about a generation and before that, Oxfordshire, around Great Milton, Stadhampton and Dorchester area in the later 1700's to early 1800's.
There is, I understand a Belcher Farm just out of Stadhampton but I don't know if there was a connection to the Farm.
So I am interested in anyone who has ancestors from this part of England. Also anyone who is connected to James (Jem) Belcher the Bristol boxer. I am looking for the name of his parents. I understand he was the grandson of Jack Slack so I presume his mother was a Slack.
I would appreciate any assistance.
Thanks

I am a descendant of Joseph Turner who died in Montgomery County, Ky. in 1800. Joseph had a son, Sudduth Turner, whose daughter married a Ramey, if my memory is correct. Joseph's youngest daughter, Phebe/Phoebe Turner, who married John Spencer in 1814 had descendants connected to the Wells family I believe.
The first proven record I have of Joseph Turner was when he bought 200 acres of land in 1792. The land was located on the waters of Slate Creek in what is now Montgomery County. The land was a part of Bourbon County in 1792. Others claim this Joseph Turner came to Lexington, Ky. in 1779.
Do you have any records of any connections to this Joseph Turner family?

November 2002 "Belcher Blues" Newsletter
Welcome to the November 2002 issue of the "Belcher Blues".
Delaware, Vermont, Maine, and emphasis on Thanksgiving and naturally we think of Massaschusetts. So Ma. additonal information is the focus for this months newsletter. Unfortunately Delaware has very little information on Belchers in the early years.
Christmas emphasis will be in the December issue and assorted research.
January we will pick back up on researching the states starting with the Midwest.
November is a month of Thanksgiving for America, it starts our holiday season of feasting and celebration, which is appropriate to start with a Thanksgiving holiday.
Often we forget though that Massaschusetts was not the first colony here. It was in Virginia. Yet many school children think the pilgrims were the first in America. Mainly because we give such and emphasis on the pilgrims. Many genealogists records include the early Virginians as pilgrims as well.
Anyone immigrating to America before 1700 sometimes is listed as pilgrims, but most records list anyone before 1640 as an early pilgrim.
So it is confusing sometimes when you see someone listed as a pilgrim, we are prone to think he came to Massaschusetts first but it is not always so.
Note:
Several people have asked how to search for surnames and other things in the different searches on the internet.
I have found that the searches are different in some aspects.
If you have a 3 letter surname such as my paternal grandmother May, then it is not easy. Searching for May sometimes wont yield anything, especially in the census. Adding a letter such as Mays or Maye will give me the census next to May. So if you have a 3 letter surname try adding an E or an S to the surname. May also yields everything in the month of May. Sometimes searches are frustrating.
putting searches in parenthesis "Mellie May" the search will give you everything with Mellie and May in it.
If you have an unusual wifes name or first name then search for that name.
Census is usually only in the males first and last name unless it is the 1910 miracode index then you can search for all names.
Regular Searches: Google.com has several searches attached to theirs. After going to google. the regular search comes up first. You can type in anything here that you are looking for. names, sentences, food, graphics genealogy etc. If you are looking for John Belcher genealogy then type that in.
or ohio genealogy type that in, exactly what you are looking for.
Click on Images and you can search for images on the net. Sometimes you will get a photo of someone you are looking for. Especially good for photos from different states, just type in the state name.
I am particularly fond of the Google search.
If you are on aol then keyword is a good search there. Just type in a word.
AOL also has a regular search tool and AOL uses google.com. Altavista.com
Gives you similar searches to Google. Search.Com
