William R. Ramey,
updated 2018
William Ramey / William Remy
Note Here::::The Remy Family in america Book has the informaton on this william partly wrong,
The book states he went into Paintsville Ky and lived there and then into Floyd and pike and founded Elkhorn City and died in elkhorn city in 1854,
the book has William and William jr mixed up
The William of Paintsville, Johnson County is entirely a Different William Remy
William Ramey and William Remy of Floyd county Kentucky often get mixed up
in the genealogy research
Where they lived in Floyd is important
By 1810 in Floyd County Ky, there were two William Remy, Rameys they were both the same age group
by 1830 and 1840 This William was in Pike County and The other William was still in floyd.
Johnson County wasnt formed until the early 1842
Floyd was divided into Johnson in 1842 and Pike Co. in 1821
Floyd County William Remy was living in the area of Paint Lick Creek,
when Floyd County was divided again,
Paintsville Ky Johnson County was formed in 1842
William Ramey of Pike [this Williams son] was living in the area of Russell Fork Creek,
a deed showing this, when Floyd was divided That area became Elkhorn City Kentucky, pike County
Keeping the deeds straight is knowing which area they lived in and who their children are.
To Make matters even more difficult, both Williams married an Eleanor
William Remy married Eleanor McCarty
He was son of Daniel, and Dorcas Brickey
Son of William and Catherine Asbury
Our William of Pikes father[this] William Married: Eleanor Harrison
To Understand William Ramey And The Ramey Genealogy Lines
You Need To Have A Fair Idea Of The Formation Of The State Of Kentucky From
Virginia.
In 1777 Fincastle County, Va. Divided Into Three Parts And Created
Washington, (Abingdon Was In Washington County) Montgomery, And Kentucky
Counties.
The Act Creating These Counties Described Kentucky County As Being
;To The South And Westward Of A Line Beginning On The Ohio
At The Mouth Of
Great Sandy Creek
And Running Up The Same And The Main, Or Northeasterly,
Branch
Thereof To The Great Laurel Ridge Of Cumberland Mountain,
Then South
Westerly Along The Said Mountain To The Line Of North Carolina.
In 1780, Kentucky County Was then Divided Into
Three Counties -- Jefferson, Fayette, And Lincoln.
From These Virginia Kentucky Counties
Kentucky Was Formed In 1792.
Many Of The Counties In Kentucky Came From These
Counties Directly.
Russell County va Was Made From Washington County va In 1786.
Clark County began in 1785 as Bourbon County, Virginia, when it
was created from Fayette County, Kentucky (also then in
Virginia). It was much larger area than present-day Bourbon
County, as its original territory is now divided among Bracken,
Boone, Campbell, Clark, Estill, Fleming, Floyd, Greenup,
Harrison, Kenton, Mason, Montgomery, Lewis, Nicholas,
Pendleton, Powell, and Robertson
Floyd Co. Ky Was Made From Fleming, Mason, Montgomery.
Pike and Johnson Counties Was Made From Floyd In 1821.
Many People Did Not Move, Their State and County Divided And
Changed To Another.
so you can see how hard it is to set a particular county in Virginia to someones birth, where they lived, or died

William R. Ramey Sr.
Born: Dec. 1750-59
posibly Fincastle County Va, Washington county was made from
Fincastle in 1777
Died: about 1840 Ky
Lived In Abingdon, Washington County Virginia
Then Clark county KY, the Carolina's,
and died in Kentucky
Sometime after 1790 they moved into the Carolinas,
North Carolina was formed in 1789 from the colony of the carolina's.
This Ramey family came from the newly formed North Carolina
into Floyd County Ky around 1793
Williams middle name is possibly Riley, several down the line are William Riley
A Record from Pike County Court Records
States: William son of Wm R. and Elener Harrison
Copy of Record
Eleanor's Tombstone Is In The Elkhorn City Cemetery.
Elener Harrison outlined with chalk and a new tombstone errected.
Married: #1 Mary Elizabeth Carter 1775 Washington County Va
Born: 1758 Cumberland County Va
Died: 1787 in childbirth with daughter Rachel
daughter of Jesse Carter and Mary Chattin of Cumberland Co. Va.
Married: around 1789 #2 Elener Harrison Wheeler
Born: 1773 Virginia
Died: ? Kentucky
The New tombstone says she was born in 1773 If this is correct,
then she cant be William of Pikes mother
and William was married twice and she was the second wife.
William was born in 1782, she would have only been age 9
William was his father but Elener couldnt have been his mother if this birthdate is correct
A marriage record for William Ramey and Mary Eliza Carter daughter of Jesse and Mary Carter, in 1775 Abingdon Virginia
I am inclined to think this is Our Williams first wife
She died in childbirth in 1787 and that would conincide with Rachel being born
Elener is still an illusive person in this line of genealogy
She was Said to be the Dau. Of Col Benjamin Harrison Born: 1773
I can find no sound proof of this
She was related to him somehow but as of now no information
Noting That several of the Harrisons married Ramey's
