Welcome to the September 2004 Issue of the "Belcher Blues Newsletter".

The Next Newsletter will be out the 1st of December, we like to do families for Christmas so if anyone has any genealogy, stories, or photos you would like put in the Christmas Issue please send them before 15th of November.

Some time Back We were informed that the cemetery that Phoebe Belcher Clay was buried in was going to move her grave.
Mitchell and Phoebe are buried in Birchlawn Cemetary in Pearisburg, VA in a place of honor. The cemetary has changed hands a couple of times and the present owners want to relocate their remains to another part of the cemetary so that the plots, choice plots, they are presently in can be sold.
Very nice bronze plaque, along the order of 32" by 72", at the gravesite to honor Mitch and Phoebe, and still retain ownership of the plots.
Nancy Greathouse-Accord (descended of Mitchell and Phoebe), has led the effort to stop the cemetery from relocating the remains and has enlisted Celanese in this effort.
At Present, The cemetery has backed off. We thank Nancy and the Celanese Corp for their activism in this cause. The Celanese legal office found the original purchase orders for the plots and one of their lawyers contacted the cemetery directly. Looks like Mitchell and Phoebe, and two or three others, will really be able to rest in peace.

A Belcher Family Reunion is planned for August 2005.
To gain information on this reunion and to assist in any way please check out this webpage.

I about fell over when I found your site. There were pictures on it of my grandfather and grandmother that I didn't even know existed. I couldn't believe you even had pictures of my great-grandparents. My Dad teared up with happiness when I showed the site to him. Thanks!

I am new at ancestral research and am looking for info on my grandfather John (B.?) Belcher of Logan Co. WV; born June 23rd? 1887-son of Brad and (I think) Mary Belcher. Died May 6, 1935. The only other info I have is that he spent one year in GA State Prison for moonshine, but I don't know what year that happened.
My mother, Myrtle (Belcher) White is now 76yrs old and has never seen a picture of her father; she was only 8 when he died. Therefore I am searching to see if I can find one if one exists somewhere. Any info would be appreciated.
You have a wonderful website.
Many Thanks,

Noticed your page on Phoebe Belcher Swinney, and wondered if you have more information on the Swinney family in Franklin and Henry co's, Va. I have loads of information on the Dodson's, but not much on the Swinney's. If you have any pertinent info, would appreciate hearing from you very much.
thanks,

First I would like to say what a wonderful web page. It is super!!!!

I came across your web page because I am researching the Browne/Brown family, about 20 from line are researching. The son of Katherine Cheney and Able Browne named James caught my eye. We have traced our Brown famliy to James Brown born in Carroll County MD around 1731-32-33, but no farther. We know that the Lane, Corbin, Sias, Brown and Wilkinson families traverl together from MD, to Huntingdon County, PA, to Pickaway County Ohio, then to Hancock County Ohio. From Land Warants in various places we have determined that a William S Brown was born in MD to a James Brown. Because we know the Rev Samuel Lane was from Lawndale, Carroll County MD, we can assume the Browns were from around the same area. Your Browns, so far, are the closet we have come. B I don't suppose you would know of any one who might have information on that James Browne? Or any records that might have his marriage or children? Just thought I would ask?

Again, very nice web page, I enjoyed reading it very much.

I veiwed your web pages on the Ramey family with interest. Although. I must admit I was searching it in hopes that there was something there on my father. I am writing to you based on the same hopes. I only know that his full name at birth in 1916 was Summerfield Ramey, and that upon entering the service he took Patrick as a first name. I also know he was born in Virginia, or West Virginia. I was wondering if you came across this name in any of your research.
Any information that you have on this would be greatly appreciated. If it is of any service to you, he married Edna Rita Dewey, from New York probably sometime in the late 1940's.
Thank You for Your Time,
Sean C. Ramey
