Introduction
Hello! I'm the 1960s' Brit fashion icon above. But I dropped out of the modelling catwalk circuit after overdosing on rosehip syrup and baby rusks! Are we by chance related?

Ciechanow, Poland, was home to my paternal Jabluszko family (Josephs aka Yublo(f)sky), and the Ros(z)enbergs. Don and Goldmachers lived in Pultusk near Warsaw. They emigrated to London's East End early last century, but some Jabluszko (Josephs) were perhaps in Ireland, South Africa and Australia.

Stern means 'star' in German and my maternal Stern ancestors lived in picturesque Heppenheim an der Bergstraße. You can pay a cyber visit at http://www.hessennet.de/heppenheim/. Innkeeper Feist Stern and second wife Jeanette, born Mayerfeld, were my great great grandparents.

One of my quests is to find the gravestone of their youngest son, my great grandfather Leopold Stern, said to have died by his own hand in North America, possibly Montreal, at the age of 37 in 1901. Can you help me?

My maternal Herz ancestors lived in Kochendorf, now Bad Friedrichshall, and Heilbronn, Baden Württemberg. Herz is probably derived from Hirsch ('deer' in German), rather than Herz, ('heart' in German). Take a virtual visit to http://www.friedrichshall.de/. Herzes settled in "The Big Apple", New York City. Horse-breeder Emil Herz established the Kentucky Derby pre-race odds winter book. See photographer Barbara Singer's site at http://www.barbarasinger.com with information on her late husband, Emil's son Nat, a photographer, poet and civil rights advocate.

My grandmother's Markus family came from Otterstadt, Rheinland Pfalz, and Hainchen, Hesse. Her Grün and Grünewald families lived in Rödelheim, Hesse, near Frankfurt am Main.

I'm looking for the descendants of Jette Stern, her half sister Anna and the families of uncles Salomon, Mendel and aunt Mameth Stern. Do you also know of New Yorkers Milton, Leon, Bernard May and their second cousin Anna Herz? And where are the missing Fox, Woolf, Wrightman and Josephs families?

Cousin Will Jonson has penned the splendid Starr Family Trails and Tales, ably assisted by the late Gene Starr. Cousin Werner Frank - http://home.pacbell.net/wlfrank/ - keeps Herz descendants informed with a polished newsletter and magnificent book, Legacy, available at http://www.avotaynu.com. Bessie Grossman and Susie Mayerfeld have shown true genealogical grit tracing relatives. Constant Hopkins with professional researcher Margrit Göttert has uncovered many Mayerfelds. Hainchen historian Gisela Lorenzen has handed over a treasure trove of Markus information. Jonathan Goldmacher, Wendy Don Blumfield and Gerald Don, John Harris and Dave Jacobs are keenly researching Don and Goldmacher families.

Four books helped. Geschichte und Geschicke der Heppenheimer Juden by Wilhelm Metzendorf; Bad Friedrichshall edited by Lothar Hantsch and Juden in Ludwigshafen edited by Ulrike Minor and Peter Ruf; Dzieje Spolecznosci Zydowskeiej powiatow Pultusk i Makow Mazowieckie by Janusz Szczepanski. Thanks also to Hans Riexinger of Kochendorf.

Apart from myself, I have tried only to display deceased family. Contact me with information, corrections or for help. Related or not, good luck with your research!

This site is dedicated to the memory of those no longer with us.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of the future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve;
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Christina Georgina Rossetti 1830-1894
