The Sommers Family from Schoeningen, Hannover, Germany, 1858

When Karl and Mina Sommers and their children arrived in Brookfield, Wisconsin, about 1858, they were most anxious to maintain their religious faith. They belonged to an Evangelical congregation, Evanlische Dreieinigkeits Kirche, near their home in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Although the original church is gone, the congregation continues as the "Trinity United Church of Christ" on Calhoun Road in Brookfield. Karl, Mina, and several of their descendants are buried in the churchyard there. Here are some records of the Trinity Evangelical Church, showing community links to birth and marriage records of several families in the Waukesha and Milwaukee County area.
