Obadiah Alexander CAMPBELL was born 22 / 23 APRIL 1843 in Ringgold, Jefferson Co., Pennsylvania to John Charles and Elizabeth Rosa (STANTLEY or STANTON) CAMPBELL. They moved to Ohio when Obadiah was about seven years old and settled in the Mt. Gilead, Crawford Co., Ohio area from about 1850 to 1858.
There were ten children to support on a carpenter's salary: Almira Melissa, Obadiah Alexander, William, James M., John F., Minnie Deborah, Robert, Charles H., Ellen Elizabeth, and Judson Westley. In June 1860, the U.S. census lists them as living in Bucyrus, Ohio. During the Civil War, John C., Obadiah's father moved to Steuben Co., Indiana. His mother, Elizabeth Rosa remained in Ohio, living with her children.
Obadiah married Mary Jane MEWHORTER/MCWHORTER, daughter of Issac and Eve (ROBINSON) MEWHORTER, on 7 DEC 1871 in Marion Co., OH. According to his Civil War record, Obadiah was about 5'5", and had black hair and blue eyes. In his older years, he grew a long white beard. Obadiah and Mary Jane lived in Tod township about 1880 but later moved two miles East of Bucyrus on Lincoln Highway RR#4 Whetstone twp. in Crawford Co., Ohio. Obadiah's brother John F. CAMPBELL, also lived with the family in later years. Obadiah was a farmer, carpenter and Civil War Veteran, 26th Reg., Co. E, Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
Obadiah and Mary Jane CAMPBELL had twelve children:

(5) George Washington, married Mary Louise BARTZ - b. 3 APR 1882, m. 3 APR 1907 Two children: Mary and Carl. George died 10 DEC 1912 Bucyrus, Crawford Co., OH. Hit by train while walking.
(6) Una James, married Mabel May WITTIBSCHLAGER - b. 27 SEPT 1884, m. 12 NOV 1907 They had one son named James. Una James died 26 MAR 1973 Bucyrus, Crawford Co., OH.
(7) Viola (Ola) Mabel, wife of George YOUNG - b. 14 MAR 1887, m. 28 FEB 1907 They had twins, Carrie (Susie) and Harvey E. Ola died 1969 Osceola, Crawford Co., OH. Lived Lemart, OH. In 1918 lived Holmes twp., Crawford Co., OH.
(8) Dolly Selesta, wife of (1st)George YOUNG m. 4 AUG, (2nd) COLLIER - b. 23 APR (14 MAR?) 1888, d. 3 MAR 1950 Lived Galion, OH.
(9) Oliver Ora (Ollie) b. 23 APR 1890, d. 12 JAN 1891 Crawford Co., OH.
(10)Ralph Raymond b. 27 DEC 1891, m. Melinda Mary SCHULTZ and had twins, named Lawrence and infant who died. Ralph died after 1931, Crawford Co., OH. Lived Martel, Holmes twp., OH, also 133 Whiting St., Toledo, OH.
(11)Harley Earl, married Lizzy - b. 16 APR 1894 Crawford Co., OH, d. 12 OCT 1972 Bucyrus, OH.
(12)Ratio Wainford (Bill),married Belva Mae WILIAMS - b.26 SEPT 1898, d.12 DEC 1960 Bucyrus, OH.
Obadiah A. Campbell died 30 JULY 1918 in Crawford Co., OH. Mary Jane (MEWHORTER) CAMPBELL died 12 SEPT 1931 in Crawford Co., OH. Both are buried in Oakwood Cemetary. They belonged to the United Brethren Church.

Mrs. Mary Jane Campbell, 80, resident of Crawford County for over 50 years died at her home in Whetstone township, Saturday night at 9:30 o'clock. Death was attributed to appoplexy. Mrs. Campbell having been ailing for about a year.
Mary Jane McWhorter was born Nov.15, 185? in Marion County, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Issac McWhorter. She was united in marriage, Dec. 7, 1871 to Obediah E. Campbell who preceded in death 12 years ago.
Eight children survive Mrs. Campbell. they are: Mrs. Elizabeth Camm, Marion; Mrs. Myrtle Green, Willard; Mrs. Dollie Collier, Indianapolis, Indiana; Mrs. Ola Young and Raymond Campbell both of Holmes township; Harley Campbell of Whetstone township and James and Ratio Campbell both of this city.
She is further survived by one half sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas of Marseilles, Ohio and 29 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. One brother and four sons preceded in death.
She belonged to the United Brethren church. Mrs. Campbell formerly lived in Marion county, moving here about 55 years ago.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 at the Campbell home on the Galion Road. Rev. W.O. Montague will officiate and burial will be made in Oakwood cemetary. Friends may call at anytime at the Campbell home. Henderson-Lutz are in charge.
