John worked for the Harrisburg Telegraph newspaper when he was a young man and became interested in promoting the Whig Political Party. He and Martin SHRENK (cousin or brother?) moved to Ohio about 1834 and settled in Bucyrus, Crawford Co., Ohio where he became editor and publisher of the Bucyrus Democrat, a Whig Political newspaper.
