2846. Luaretta Adeliza TRUMAN was born on 6 Jan 1814 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., PA. She died on 1 Apr 1890 in West Willow Creek, Bingham Co., ID. After the marriage of Henry Verveelen Barnum and Adeliza Lauretta Truman, (whose brother and sister, respectively were also married), the family lived in Michigan. In 1838, he (Henry) participated in the so-called Patriot War and joined an ill-fated expedition to conquer part of Canada. There he was captured by British soldiers, tried before a British courts martial and sentenced to life inprisonment at h ard labor in the British penal colony in Van Dieman's land, now Tasmania, in the Pacific Ocean. After a little less then ten years, however, he was pardoned by Queen Victoria and returned to Michigan. There he found that his wife, with whom he had been unable to communicate during all this period, had given him up for dead and had just remarried . Notwithstanding their continued affection for each other, they decided Adeliza Lauretta's newly born baby by her second marriage needed her more than their own children, who were now fourteen and eleven respectively. So Adeliza went to Utah with the L.D.S. Church and Henry settled in Ypsilanti, MI.
