5653. Spencer Cyril HOWARTH⁵⁹ was born on 21 Jan 1902 in Troy Twsp., Oakland Co., MI. He died on 25 Nov 1950 in Pontiac, Oakland Co., MI. He attended Lindon School on East Square Lake Rd., thru the eigth grade and then Lake Orion HS where he graduated in 1921. Following graduation he attended the Pontiac Business Institue. Spencer worked with his father in the automobiel business in Lake Orion and also worked with the Detroit Interurban Railroad at Rochester. He was appointed special deputy in Orion township in 1924 and continued in this position until 1927.

While he was engaged in the private automobile business he served as Orion township supervisor for 3 yrs. He resigned his position to become Business Manager of the Oakland Co. Storage for 1930 to 1932 which entailed purchasing all supplies used by the county. He was appointed Under Sheriff on Feb 7 1933. On Feb 5 1935 he was appointed Sheriff to fill the unexpired term of Roy Reynods who died suddenly. He ran and was elected Sheriff in 1936 and was reelected for three additional sucessive terms. He ran for the State House of Representatives and was elected in 1945 and 1947. His poor health prevented him from seeking a third term. He worked at the Pontiac Retail Store up until his death in 1950 at the age of 48.

He met Anita while he was deputy and she was a teacher of the 1st grade in the Lake Orion Schools.

Spencer Cyril HOWARTH and Anita Minnie BENNETT were married on 7 Feb 1929 in Lake Orion, MI. Anita Minnie BENNETT was born on 15 Feb 1906 in Hanover, IL. Spencer Cyril HOWARTH and Anita Minnie BENNETT had the following children:

Spencer Cyril HOWARTH and Sophia NEFF were married on 5 Jan 1939 in Marion, IN. Sophia NEFF died in 1956 in Pontiac, Oakland Co., MI. Spencer Cyril HOWARTH and Sophia NEFF had the following children:
