Obituary - October 16, 1914
Edward Henry Fogerty, one of the best known residents of this village, died shortly after twelve o clock Tuesday night after a long and painful illness.
Mr. Fogerty was born in Troy in 1846, his paretns being Michael and Catherine Fogerty. He recieved his education at the Brothers school now known as LaSalle Institute. Soon after leaving school he secured employment in the office of the Troy Times and later worked for the Troy Press.
In 1868 Mr. Fogerty went to North Hoosick and for several years was bookkeeper in the office of Stevens and Thompason.
In 1879 he came to this village and had since lived here. He was an expert accountant, and soon after coming to this village he became bookkeeper for the late Frank Riley with whom he remained until 1894 when he was engaged to look after the books in the furniture and undertaking rooms of Haussler & Sons, where he remained until compelled by reason of illness to give up work.
Mr. Fogerty was a charter member of the Hoosick Falls Lodge of Elks and was elected secretary a few months after its organization, holding that office up to the time of his death.
He was a staunch Deomocrat in politics and held several offices of responsibility and trust in town and village and at the time of his death was collector of Union Free School District No. 1.
Mr. Fogerty was married in 1873 to Miss Mary Barnett of North Hoosick who survives as do also two daughters, Mrs. Arthur McCaffrey and Mrs. Martin Kearney of this village and a sister, Mrs. Mary E. Fogerty of Troy.
The funeral will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church at 9 o clock this forenoon where a requiem mass will be said. The local lodge of Elks will attend in a body and escort the remains of their beloved brother and friedn to the last earthly resting place in St. Mary s cemetery.
Edward Fogerty has indeed passed away, and his familiar form and gental smile will be sadly missed by many who had found in him a pleasant companion for so many years, but the influence of such a personality is far reaching and enduring and many dear friends will hold among their most sacred treasures the memory of this man whose whole life was an example of loyal freindship and faithful service.
