Obituary 1924
Mrs. John Estes Dies After Long Illness
Elderly Bay Resident Goes To Her Reward
Dies Saturday Morning at 7:30 A.M.
Survived By Four Children.

On last Saturday morning at 7:30 the town was called to mourn the loss of one of its residents, in the person of Emeline Estes, wife of John Estes, who has resided in this place for a number of years.

Mrs. Estes was born in Yarker, Ontario, the daughter of Margaret and William Joyner April 13th, 1854, and had she lived until next April she would have reached the seventy-year mile-stone.

She had been in poor health for over a year, a patient suffered from diabetes, and last week Wednesday suffered a partial stroke, and from that time continued to grow steadily worse until the end came last Saturday. Everything in medical attention was rendered her, Dr. Calkins being called Friday and remaining until the end came.

She was united in marriage to John Estes 52 years ago, and for some time they resided at the Shurtleff Ore Mines near Philadelphia, where he was employed as shaft foreman. They then moved to this place where they have since made their home.

Besides her husband she is survived by four children: B. J. Estes of Syracuse, L. J. Estes, Mrs. Joseph Northrup, and Miss Florence Estes of this place. There also survives one brother, Barney Joyner of Barragee, Michigan.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon, prayers were said at the home at 1:45, and the funeral at the Methodist Episcopal Church at 2:00 p.m., Rev. O. E. Raymond, the pastor officiating. Burial was made in the Church street cemetery.

Mrs. Estes was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of this place and a member of the Ladies' Aid Society. She was a woman of sterling character, a good neighbor, and one who made many friends during her entire life. Not only among her family will she be missed, but among her wide circle of friends there will be a vacancy that will be felt.
