NEW INDUSTRY

Mr. David Dunn, for several years with Mr. Peter Grant in the lumbering business, has started the manufacture of brick at the west of the railway track a short distance below the foundry, New Liskeard. Mr. Dunn has secured the services of Mr. Charles Stevens, a practical brick-maker of Huntsville, and the first kiln of about 90,000 bricks was burned recently.
Mr. Dunn purchased some of the outfit used here by Mr. K. Farah, but the most of his plant is new, and up-to-date. He did not say much about the new line of business he was putting his money into, when he first bought the property, believing it would be best to await the burning of a kiln so as to be assured that he would be able to manufacture a good article. This kiln has proven very satisfactory. The bricks are classed No. 1, and Mr. Dunn has reason to be well satisfied with his venture.
New Liskeard had a brick factory in the early days, and fine bricks were made, and the fact was established that the “Clay Belt” clay was the kind for making bricks as well as growing cereals. But there came a few years of depression, and the brick business did not flourish to the satisfaction of the man who had the business. Then, two years ago, another practical brick-maker was about to come here, but something went wrong, and for two more years Temiskaming had to bring bricks from the outside. Now, however, the manufacture of brick has again been undertaken here, and by a man who is of the kind who make a success of their undertakings.
We hope it will not be over-looked that Mr. Dunn has a large stock of brick on hand.

Mr. Elliott Dunn Injured

On Monday afternoon while his sale was in progress, we learn that Mr. Elliott Dunn had the misfortune to sustain a serious accident, we understand. He had lead a horse out of the stable, and it took fright and ran away dragging him quite a distance over a plowed field. It would appear that his hand got tangled with the leading rope, and that he could not free himself until he had been dragged quite a distance.
We understand Mr. Dunn’s shoulder was “put out” and a small bone was broken. Mr. Dunn and family had planned to leave for Western Canada on Saturday next, and this accident may delay them in carrying out their intentions.
