Edwin was baptised 18/6/1820 at St James, Bristol.

On the 1841 census he was shown as lodging at Parsonage St, St Phillips, Bristol with his Uncle and Aunt Richard & Maria Gillard. His occupation was Hatter and he advertised in Slater's Business Directory of 1847 under Hat Dealers with an address at 1 Square Lane, Mill st. (Castle Mill St ? )

Edwin married Louisa Dye on July 11 1841 at the parish church of St Phillips and St Jacob, Bristol. Louisa Dye was born in Watchett, Somerset in 1821.

Edwin and Louisa lived at 30 Alfred St St Phillips, Bristol from 1851 onwards. On the 1851 and 1871 censuses Edwin's occupation was 'Hatter', but on the 1861 census he was a packer at glassworks and in 1881 he was a labourer. Edwin died in 1884 and Louisa in 1886. Their children were :

    3. Amy E Baker b. 1897
  7. Alice Maria Gillard b. 1858 m. Arthur Edwin Longden in 1881 at Bristol (Arthur was a lodger at 30 Alfred St on the 1881 census). Their children were :
    1. Arthur S.D. Longden b. 1883 ( The initial D could be Dallaway)
    2. Nellie E Longden b. 1886
    3. Edith Longden b. 1893

    Alice died in 1897 and Arthur remarried to Ellen Cullimore in 1899.
