Francois Dutech

According to family tradition, a member of the Dutech family was a drummer or a flag boy of Napolean. Napolean was so pleased with his service that he gave him a document stating that any ancestor of his could attend the French Military Academy free -- forever. The family stated there was a document to this effect, signed by Napolean. The reported document has disappeared (as have other known family papers).

The Saint Helena medal, created in 1857 by Napoleon III, was awarded to the 405,000 soldiers still living in 1857, who had fought with Napoleon I during the 1792-1815 wars
