Was born in Colwell county, Kentucky, October 4, 1828. He is a son of the late William and Elizabeth Cadwell. They
early moved to Pike county, Ill., where they engaged in agricultural pursuits.
The subject of this sketch received his education in this county. In the fall of 1849 he became an apprentice to
learn the carpenter trade, and in 1850 made an overland trip to Oregon, thence to California. In 1852 he returned
home, by way of Panama, Cuba, and New Orleans. In 1855 he married Miss Jennie C., daughter of Edward and Charlotte
Pond.
Mr. Cadwell has had born to him five children, two of whom are deceased. Soon after his marriage he engaged in
farming, in Green county, residing there three years. He then removed to Griggsville. He has the largest orchard
and the best variety of fruit in the county. In 1867 he engaged in mercantile pursuits, and is now senior member
of the firm of Cadwell & Bonnell. They have quite an extensive stock of goods. He is a generous, open-hearted,
courteous gentleman.
