EDWARD N. FRENCH

Is the son of Isaac French. His mother's maiden name was Rebecca Frailey. He was born in the state of Vermont, in the town of Hardwick, in the year 1829, and remained at home with his parents until the year 1850. About this time he emigrated to the state of Wisconsin, where he followed lumbering for one year. Becoming tired of that country, he came to the state of Illinois, and located in the town of Milton, in Pike county, where he engaged as clerk and salesman, with George Underwood, and remained in that business for seven years, when he became tired of working for other people and bought a piece of good land, and went to farming and stock-raising, at which he has been very successful. In the year 1852 he was married to Miss Sarah Hoover, who was born in Pike county, Illinois, in the year 1830, and is the daughter of Daniel and America Hoover, who came to Illinois in 1827, settling in Montezuma township, where they died in the year 1868. As to Mr. French, he is well and favorably known in Pike county. He commenced his course in life in very limited circumstances, but through industry, economy, and fair dealing, he is now looked upon as one of the heavy property owners of his community.

He is now the father of four children, three sons and one daughters, all living and enjoying most excellent health. Mr. French is entitled to much credit for the great improvement he has made in the short-horned cattle of Pike county. He is perhaps one of the most successful fine stock raisers in Pike county. He is a man universally respected for his enterprise, honesty, and good citizenship. He is also a man of benevolent heart, and is always ready to extend the hand of friendship and welcome a friend to his magnificent residence.

All persons and good farmers, wish to improve their stock in short-horn and fine blood, we would recommend to visit Mr. French, near the town of Milton, in Pike county, and examine his fine herds.
