Was born in Kentucky, in 1808. In 1828 he emigrated to the state of Missouri, and remained five months, when he
removed to Illinois, and settled in Pittsfield, Pike county, where he remained for eleven years, during which time
he followed the trade of carpenter and builder. In 1834 he married Miss Electa B. Crane. She was born in the state
of Connecticut, in the year 1809, and came to Pike county, Illinois, in 1833. Mrs. S. Howland, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Hickerson, born in 1835, was the first child born in the town of Pittsfield.
In 1835, Mr. Hickerson purchased land in section 22, in Newburg township, which he improved and lived on for twenty
years. He has lived in the same township for the last thirty-six years, during which time he has generally been
engaged in farming. He has held the office of justice of the peace for about thirty years, and is said to be the
oldest justice in the county. Mr. Hickerson is a man of very active habits. He is well qualified to transact the
ordinary business of the county. His council and advice is frequently solicited by his neighbors, and he is looked
upon as a very useful man in his community. He was the father of six children — one son and five daughters, five
of whom are yet living, three married and two single.
