DR. J. W. EVANS


Was born in Harrison county, Ohio, in 1827, and remained there until 1847. He received his early education in the city of Cadiz. At the age of thirteen he entered college at New Hagerstown, and remained there four years. He then commenced the study of medicine under Dr. A. G. Osborn, of Cadiz, Ohio. In the spring of 1849 he received his diploma at the medical college in Cincinnati. He then commenced the practice of medicine in the town of Strawsburg, Ohio, where he remained three years. He then went to New Market and practiced for two years. In 1854 he emigrated to Illinois, and settled in New Canton, Pike county, where he has since remained, engaged very successfully in the practice of his profession, as well as farming, merchandising, and buying and shipping stock. In April, 1856, he married Miss Martha E. Jackson. She was born in Pleasant Vale township, where New Canton now is. Dr. Evans has a large practice, and has been very successful. He is considered one of the best physicians in this country.
