**********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************    The year 2008 marks the 125th Anniversary of the opening of FAIRVIEW CEMETERY on Stanley Avenue in Niagara Falls, Ontario. (Dedication was 20 July, 1883) So many of the GLYNN and KELLEY/KELLY families reside there. Over the years we have had the generous assistance of Cynthia Roberts, Manager of Parks and Cemeteries, as we sought to "unearth" our family history. Here is some of the material forwarded to Cynthia and her associates for inclusion in their "Family History" efforts.

According to the CENSUS of 1901, Bridget entered Canada in 1852 and Patrick in 1853. Although we know quite a bit about the KELLY family, we know little of Patricks origins. It is somewhat possible that they both landed in New York City which was the hub of much Irish immigration at this time. Were they married prior to their voyage? Some have suggested that they were married at St.Patricks Old Cathedral on Mulberry  Street in NYC. Possible but not proven. If so, why would Bridget have come to Ontario a year before Patrick? Were her brother, Patrick KELLY and wife Ellen DONNELLY already in the Niagara area? In 1880, niece, Bridget KELLY (daughter of Michael KELLY of Moylough, Galway), arrived in Queenston her passage having been paid by her Aunt, Bridget (Kelly) GLYNN, and Uncle, Patrick KELLY.

Patrick and Bridget had 7 children: Michael (1856-1943), Bridget (1860-1942). Patrick J. (1861-1937), Ellen (1863-1928),

Simon (1867-1943), Mary (1870-1952), Kathryn (1871-1962). The eldest, Michael, and the youngest, Kathryn, never married. Bridget and Mary became Sisters of Loretto (IBVM). Three married: Patrick J (Jennie Williamson); Ellen (Farley Edward KELLEY); and, Simon (Katherine Madigan). Patrick and Jennie had 9 children, Ellen and Farley had 3 (Farley died at age 33), Simon and Katherine had 5 children. With the exception of Simon (and Katherine) who settled in Niagara Falls, NY, all the other children (and spouses) reside in FAIRVIEW. Of the grandchildren, 11 (and spouses) are also at FAIRVIEW (Bernard J. Glynn died in WWI and is buried in Somme, France) and, Simon and his family are at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Niagara Falls, NY.

Michael Joseph Glynn, aged and highly respected member of a pioneer Niagara family, died at his home 455 Ellis Street, last night after an illness of several weeks.Born in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Mr.Glynn was the son of the late Patrick and Bridget Glynn and spent practically all his life in this city and for many years was employed in the flour mill of the Niagara Falls Milling Company, Niagara Falls, NY. Later he was employed by the Clifton Hotel here, retiring about twelve years ago.
