A SENTIMENTAL RETURN TO SCOTLAND
1926

Mary Wilson McRae returned to Scotland in 1926. She had emigrated with her family to the US in 1911. In 1924 her mother, Mary Harper McRae, and her youngest brother, William Alexander McRae, had voyaged back to Scotland for a visit. William had been born in the US and this was his very first visit with family/friends there. In 1926 when Mary Wilson McRae sailed from NY to Glasgow it would be her first visit in 15 years. She took many photos - some of which are shown here and kept a journal which recorded most (though not all) of her days in Scotland. Many of the photo had notations written in the margins. However, the identity of those pictured and the locations remain largely a mystery to me. I believe that Mary stayed in Carfin with her cousins though she visited many of the old family "haunts" - Dalleagles (New Cumnock), Cumnock and elsewhere. I note that her Uncle Willie (Harper) and others came for a visit from Keith. Her "Journal" below is of some help in decoding events, but not in identifying those pictured. I'm unsure whether those pictured are "relatives" or merely friends. If you think you recognize persons or locations I would greatly appreciate a note from you.
